Rangnick press conference - Norwich home

Rangnick on the protest
"We all know that football is a game of passions and emotions and we can all understand. I can understand the supporters being disappointed about where we stand in the table and the performance against Everton. still believe our supporters are one of the best, if not the best in England, as long as they do the protest in a peaceful way and as long as they still support the team in the stadium. They have the right to express their opinion. Emotionally I can understand them being disappointed."

Rangnick on United's form
"We've had moments when we've played well. I think we've had quite a few games where we really played well in the way that we played together as a team. But what we haven't done [so far] is do it in a sustainable way and over a longer period of time, and I'm disappointed about that."

Rangnick on Ten Hag
"I don't know if it's a done deal. My reply is the same as Erik Ten Hag's was. My focus is on the game tomorrow. Again, we all know he is a good manager, that he has done a good job at Ajax and also at former clubs, but right now it doesn't make sense to tell you what I think about any other coach."

Is motivation an issue?
"It shouldn't be a problem at a club like United. The players at United should always have a level of internal motivation."

Rangnick on team news
"Five players will still be missing for tomorrow and some of them probably for the upcoming games. You've already mentioned Fred and Scott, Raphael Varane will still be missing out, Shaw, who had his bolts and metal stuff removed from his leg and Edinson Cavani - those are the five that will be missing."

Another update on Shaw
"As it seems, he will be out for another at least four weeks, if not five weeks, so I think for him it will be difficult to be available for one of the remaining seven games."

United's priority
"In football in general, no matter where, this is what it's all about [taking it game by game]. It doesn't make sense to speculate how other teams will play or if they will drop points or not. As long as we don't win our own games, the other results won't be in a favour, so our focus is on tomorrow."

Why can't United sustain performances?
"I can imagine what reasons are. Without using it as an excuse, we have lost a few players since the West Ham game, for example, we lost three of our strikers, who were all part of that game and part of that last second goal that we scored. Right now, we are missing quite a few others players with Fred and McTominay, our two defensive midfielders, so this is probably one reason, but in total, it's that we're not sustainably playing at the highest possible level."

Pogba & Matic

When Rashford was the only available forward he decided to still not play him. I think he needs to do the same in centre mid, he can't play those two. Get Phil Jones ready!

Why can't United sustain performances?
In short. Just more blah di blah.

Just play Hannibal CM, don’t bother with Pogba there’s absolutely no point now.

Worst case we lose but get to see a player we’re all desperate to get some minutes, with Pogba in we’ll likely lose and have a player in there a large portion of the fan base despise.

I have to say, I admire him for not throwing the players under the bus despite not having anything to lose. But with some of his answers, you can tell he has a low opinion of these players. His answers to whether motivation was an issue and why we haven't performed well were telling.

Why don't the journalists ask him if he's considering to play the kids instead? Maybe ask if him if he's willing to throw Mejbri in!
If that happens, how will they moan about pathetic United?

Any chance we might see Fernández with Shaw out?

Dalot lindelof MaguireTelles

——Bruno——Pogba———
Elanga—Ronaldo—Sancho

Can’t really see it being anything else tbh.

What's this about Shaw having bolts and metal stuff removed from his leg?
They leave them in at surgery to support and stabilize during bone growth, then remove them ONLY if they start causing chafing or issues after some years. Guessing the metal bits are causing issues or pain and probably since no longer needed perhaps are wholly or partially removed now.

Shouldn't that be a procedure carried out in the closed season, not during the season?

I guess it must have been pretty bad and couldn't wait, although he played for England, quite recently, and did pretty well.

Usually it is, but im guessing like yourself it's either bad in terms of pain or medical reasons or that they decided to make the extraction now in order to be healed up and ready for the upcoming season with the world cup and all the scedule is stacked. It's a qualified guess at best.
