I remember his final 'comeback' game against Spurs away in 1973. He was only 27 - so young to make a comeback, yet alone a final one.
My favourite football memory was a meaningless late season game (Ipswich, I think) in about 1971 when he beat a defender and the defender fell over. George walked back, let him get up and beat him again. A great way to liven up a dead game.
My favourite non football story is a few years after he retired. He had won a heap of money at the casino and returned to the hotel with his latest girlfriend, a recent Miss World. He rang room service and ordered champagne. He waiter arrived. There was a heap of cash on the bed, girlfriend in negligee and the waiter said 'Tell me George, where did it go wrong?' George didn't believe the question.
George has the ball outside the area. Packed defence between him and the goal. George shimmies one way. Packed defence goes that way, every man jack. George goes the other way and scores.
Never seen anything like it since. Well, Maradona maybe. Hagi in WC94?
