yo this has been buggin me to long now...if you watched the last rugby game of the 2006 six nations England v Ireland, the whole game including the national anthems and the bringing out the countrys flags...

Why did they bring out this stupit flag with the irish rugby simbol and not the tri colour, the national flag of ireland. This totally pissed me off. and not only that, they didt play irelands national anthem, just the other song that ireland plays at the irish games.

i really badly need to know why.

It is because it isn't the Republic of Ireland team. The team's anthem used to be God Save the Queen when they were playing at home in Belfast. In recent times when the games have been played exclusively in the South it has become increasingly necessary to up the importance of the IRFU flag and Ireland's Call to avoid the team becoming simply the Irish Republic.

I bet the lads from Munster sang heartily along to that ;)

they could do a tri colour with a big red hand and "no surrender" written under it, right in the middle of the white part.
everybody would be happy then. :nervous:

wtf are you talking about! when ireland plays anywhere else, they play the national song of ireland, plus bring out the national flag. what appeered to happen on here was, that the english were just pissed that they had no chance at winning the six nations or the triple slam, and so there fore as they allready hate the irish anyway, they pulled this weak move.
one of the lame-est things i have ever seen for defs.

We dont do it in football because the team doesn't consist of the north and south of Ireland unlike the rugby. So to make it all PC in the rugby, there was a different anthem and flag used so nobody would be offended.
