Man. United to Sign Quaresma

London, Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Manchester United is close to signing Sporting Lisbon winger Ricardo Quaresma, the Sunday Express said.

Talks between the clubs about the 19-year-old are at an advanced stage, the paper added. Quaresma, selected for Portugal's 2002 World Cup squad, may cost 10 million pounds ($16.3 million), the Express said.

The News of the World said United will offer Southampton 4 million pounds for Finnish goalkeeper Antti Niemi.

Lets hope this is true Quaresma i mean

he has got the best chance of being the next big star to come out of portugal

he is utter class

I like what people say about him (if true)- for comparison's sake; a mixture of Beckham(passing/crosses) and Figo(attacking with ball).

so you would turn down a player who has every thing in his game to become as good as figo

ok

i dont rate figo that highly myself but im sure quaresma is good. Dont get all patronising with me mate, i was just saying i think a striker should be the priority rather than another winger. But like i also said, im sure ferguson knows best

ok?

its obvious we need to strengthen the left and perhaps even the right side.... I think we should be two wingers/wide players to add to the squad.

figo is decent player, one of the best in europe but some people make him out to be THE best in europe, and one of the all-time greats which i dont, personally</strong><hr></blockquote>

you might not rate the figo of this season

but if you saw him play for barca in his prime you would know what a world class play he is

I'd have to agree with Van Niistelrater, in that the wizard knows best. A striker is definitely a priority as we have only 3 who are recognised. Do i have to remind people that we already have possibly the best midfield in world football.(7 established internationals) Buy another midfielder and our reserves would be the best in the business. Can we say that we have the best pool of strikers in the world? Well at least that's open for debate. Oh and for the record i have seen a lot of Figo's play in recent times, and honestly he looks a player past his best, he's no spring chicken is he?

Still only 30 I think, past his best is still pretty good though from what I've seen this season. Some of his exchanges with ZZ are exquisite. But its true he has lost quite as bit of energy.

well said that, mate

i just think we need someone like bellion, young, pacey as feck and willing to sit on the bench.

The Bellion deal might still happen, isn't his mammy pleading to let him go to United.

Quaresma is rated as one of the best young players on the continent, the top attacking talents are rare so when they come along United should be in there.

I agree with VanNistelrater as well, a striker should be our main aim at the moment but if a player of Quaresma's talent should be available then we should most definately be in for him. As for Figo, he doesnt look as good as he used to, a few years ago i would have rated him one of the best in the world, no i dont think he even rates a mention.
