After finding out that PS3 is region-free for most games, I'll pick up a system and a few games at local GameStop store tomorrow. I'm planning on spending about 200$ to 300$ on games.

Can anybody who's in possession of PS3 or has played a few of its games recommend me some titles that are worth buying?

Uncharted is a must-have from what I've heard, so is GT5 prologue. What about other the rest?

Mgs 4. Devil May Cry as well in my opinion... but I dont think thats everyones cup of tea, is quite repetitive.

The good thing about dollar costing about two times less than 2 years ago is that now I can buy a lot more stuff when I'm in the USA than I would have bought back then. :smirk:

Has MGS4 been released already? I think they have it listed as a pre-order there.

MGS4 - Simply the best game out at the moment.
Uncharted - Superb game, beautiful graphics.
Resistance - Excellent single player campaign and online keeps you going aswell.
COD4 - Best online game out there.
RSV & RSV2 - Both superb games and both superb online aswell, more tactical than COD4, and more satisfying.
Warhawk - Fast, intense online action.
Ratchet & Clank - Just one hell of a fun game!
GT5 Prologue - Best racing sim out there, graphically stunning.

Those should keep you in good stead for a few months untill more big hitters come out. Check out the PS Store as there are a few good games on there aswell, most cost a fiver at most.

And if you have a HDTV, get a few Blu-Ray movies!!

Once you've got your online account set up, post your online ID and we'll get a few games going:D

I had RSV for my 360, same goes for GTA4. Both excellent games, but no point in playing them over again.

Uncharted is really a game I'm looking forwad too. They do have MGS4 already as well, so I'll be buying it definitely.

The price for the system and games is awesome as well. Top Spin is my another choice, solely for multiplayer purposes.

Any decent sports games released yet?

Will talk to you after the weekend. Does it have a wireless adaptor? I have a wireless network set up at this place.

People rave about FIFA 08 but I think it is still not as good as previous Pro Evo's, so both football games have disappointed me so far. Hopefully FIFA 09 and PES09 will be improvements.

Yeh but you smoke pot.

Believe me FIFA 08 is better than PES6 and PES 5.

esmufc07 are you not into the Devil May Cry series? I think im the only one who likes it. :(

Outside of Japan of course.

Yes and no. I really enjoyed 1 & 3, 2 was a bit of a let down if I'm being honest.

However 4 was just 'more of the same' and didn't really offer any major changes game-play wise. Was still a good game, but it became rather boring after a few hours.

They should have done to DMC4 what they did to Resident Evil 4, give it a complete re-vamp and refresh the series. Hopefully they will do it with number 5.

Don't know so much about sports games....i have tiger woods 08 and fifa 08....both are really more of the same with better graphics on HD

Uncharted is a must if you ask me.....i was never into those types of games before but that in fairness blew me away.there were times i just stopped playing and enjoyed the view the graphics were that beautiful....however if you play it make sure you have HD to get the full effect.

Gran tourismo 5 prologue is also a must if you like racing games(however i'm biased as the GT series has been my favourite for years)

COD4 is another brilliant game, the best first person shooter out there and online its just hours of fun....single player has some levels which are so different(the sniper mission for one)

never played MGS but i heard the new one is very good.they were never really my type of games but maybe since uncharted changed my opion of third person games i might give it a shot.

Warhawk online is good fun but is purely multiplayer.

There are obviously more out there but these are what games i have and played bar 1 or 2 of em which aint worth mentioning and will be traded in for the next game i'm getting:)

Do me a favour and shut up. FIFA 08 is the first DECENT FIFA game of the series and it's still far far behind the gameplay that pro evo gave us and is still giving us right now. Admittedly pro evo 2008 wasn't an improvement on pro evo 6 but pro evo 2008 on ps2>>>>>>>>>>FIFA 08 on any console. I'll admit that pro evo hasn't lived up to its ps2 rep on the next gen consoles but the gameplay is still far more realistic and free flowing than FIFA 08 on the next gen consoles. The only EA football game that seems to even have good GAMEPLAY is euro 2008.

Sarni, if you like graphics, licenced teams and ridiculous skills then go for FIFA 08 but if you want GAMEPLAY and your ps3 is backward compatiable then buy one of the older pro evos that came out on the ps2.

oh 1871, the emoticons were all in good nature, don't take offence. I just get annoyed when people write absolute rubbish when someone wants advice on buying something.

A good list, but you've heavily exaggerated the descriptions. MGS4 is not the best game out there and its not for everyone. GT5 prologue isnt the best sim since its basically a watered down game. And Uncharted, while being a very good game, is also quite short so its only worth a rent.

Oblivion - There is no excuse for not getting this. It can be picked up for very little money and is probably still the best next-gen game out there, despite being over 2 years old already. Be sure to pick up the expansions too, or alternavely the game of the year edition which comes with the lot already. The graphics are beautiful and i can guarantee that you will not do everything that there is to do in the game. Get it.

FIFA 2008 - This is the best football game i've played. It's still worth getting even if the new is coming out in a few months. The online play is pretty much flawless and the satisfaction you get out of the game is simply
enormous.

Final Fantasy 13 and Versus - I don't think Square-Enix will disappoint again here after the absolutely collosal let down that went by the name of FF12. These two games are visually stunning and are certain to have a fantastic soundtrack and storyline. I may end up getting a PS3 just for these two.

No I do seriously believe the latest FIFA is better than any Pro Evo. For years i have only ever bought Pro Evo due to all the reasons you listed. But this latest FIFA is different. When i first played it I was like, this is shit, too slow, you can't beat players, etc. But once you get used to the pace and gameplay, you realise that it is actually better and more realistic.

But debating whether the latest FIFA is better than any PES ever made, is irrelevant seeing as the man is buying a PS3 and the only two football games to be released on it are PES2008 and FIFA 08, and seeing how PES2008 is shocking on next gen, which is why FIFA is the only option.

Maybe you're right, FIFA 2008 might be different from the rest of the series and it might grow on me. I only compared fifa to the previous pro evo games on ps2 because if Sarni has a backward compatiable ps3 then he'll be better off buying one of them.

Agreed, I like the capcom type of action though, which is why I still liked it, despite the lack of scenery on the game etc... I think you actually backtrack on yourself at one point. The gameplay can play quite challenging at times though and it takes quite a while to unlock or achieve everything.

Darkness is well worth a look at, top title.

Good title, but again only worth a rent.

Just to clarify the only titles worth a purchase imo:

- Warhawk ( good multiplayer)

- MGS4 (IF you're a fan, I personally am not)

- Gta IV (if you dont own it already)

- Oblivion (as above)

The rest deserve nothing more than a weekend rental...thats if you dont want to waste money.

That being said there are plenty of good PS3 titles worthy of a purchase from the end of this year leading up to 2009.

And which PS3s are compatible backwards?

I've been playing PES6 a lot on my 360, so I probably won't pick up anything of the kind for the PS3. FIFA is completely different so I may go with it, unless it costs $59, in which case I'd rather save this money and buy something else.

Is PES2008 really THAT bad for PS3?

I love it, Lambsy. Levels are pretty varied and all. I'm on Highway 17(the apache/gunship is after me on the bridge). Sometimes the game feel post apocalyptic. . .and the towns have a dystopian feel. (Well, it's set in a dystopian future). 'We don't go to Ravenholm...' was almost Resident Evil like.

What makes you think your opinion on a game is worth more than mine?

Oh and your comment about Uncharted is a load of shit.

Sarni a word of warning, take nothing this guy says seriously, particularly on issues regarding the PS3.
