Hello,

My PS3 USB ports are no longer working, I cannot use any of them and cannot charge my controllers.

It was sent for repair at the same shop the PS3 was bought. The guy there told me that it was probably due to a voltage surcharge, so he resetted the PS3 on my agreement.

This hasn't resolved the problem and now I'm on the welcome screen asking me to connect my controller through USB to proceed :nervous:

I've googled quite a lot these days, but i haven't seen anything conclusive so far.

Help

out of warranty I guess?

Sorry moving to General chat... yep out of warranty.

I would try this again.

Just go to Settings --> System Settings --> Restore Default Settings.
Wait a minute and then see what happens. Also try different USB cables. The Sony ones have a wierd circular thing in the middle of the cable. Might be worth a try.

If all that fails, then maybe a power surge has blown something. If that's the case, I would just charge your controllers elsewhere. Sky box, iPhone adapter, pc etc.

Dear T2000, the PS3 has already been resetted and the welcome screen asks me to connect my controller to my PS3 with USB cable to proceed.

Can't you recharge the controller using a pc usb or am I missing something?

Before doing anything drastic be sure to try another USB cable. I had the exact same problem just a few days ago, the controller had run out of juice and the cable (the original Sony one) had ceased to work. I swapped it for a spare I had and after a few seconds pushed the PS button, after that all was well again.

Ok, will try cos' my original cable was broken, I bought a cheap one for replacement, maybe that caused the fault. Will keep you informed.

Anyway going to Europe next week, will see what WeasteDevil and T2000 say can be done. :)

Thanks for your response.

The daughter board with the USB sockets could have done one. It shouldn't be difficult to replace.

Ok... I had a bad experience with my PS2 trying to install a mod chip... so I won't even dare to try opening my PS3... do you know by chance any expert in the field?

I finally got it repaired... found an expert who had the full PS3 schema in my country... only one usb port is working though... works great with a usb hub... i have installed cfw 3.55 and have played most of the hits cracked by now... :)
