Im torn, ive been saving up for one or the other since I got back to work and Im close to my goal for a new comp

My biggest concern about a PS3 is I have a shit TV and I would be almost forced to get an HDTV which would cost quite a bit

They both have games Im dying to play
PC being COD4 (feck FPS on consoles) and Starcraft II

PS3 has some great games as well

any ideas?

Most of the computer games these days are console ports that run crap even on NASA computers. I have a PS3 and a gaming rig, I mostly play games on the PS3. Starcraft 2 should be playable on your current computer if it is decent.

I have a standard TV and the picture quality is still great for the PS3. Add to that all the exclusives it has lined up, it will be a worthwhile investment for £299.

Depends what types of games you want to play really, if you're an FPS person get the PC, if you like the look of upcoming PS3 exclusives, get that instead.

Or splash out and get both!

I would never buy a FPS for a console I need a keyboard and mouse
plus all the hardcore FPS kids play on PC and I love competition

If playstation hadnt pissed off namco and lost games like Ace Combat 6 then this would be a much easier decision

you are able to play PS3 on your PC monitor, with an adaptor cable.

PC games can't be graphically as good as PS3 games.

what are NASA computers?

First of all mate, whats your budget? Because theres no way you're going to get a decent gaming PC the same price of a PS3. I just built myself an elite gaming machine, and it cost me the best part of £1500. Just thought id let you know. PC gaming is very expensive, every couple of months you're going to be forced to splash out hundreds on hardware updates if you want to run games on the highest graphics settings.

One year ago I would have said go for the PC, but nowadays the PS3 looks like its picking up pace, the online features are improving and theres some very good titles out on the horizon. Of course theres no need to worry about hardware updates and the console is supposedely built to last a decade, so theres some good value for money.(PS2 has been released 8 years ago and is still releasing games today!) Oh and you get a Blu-Ray player thrown in too if you fancy some high-def home cinema

In terms of games, well nowadays PC exclusives are becoming more scarce and console gaming is very much catching up with its potential; just look at oblivion on the PS3 and Xbox 360, idential to the PC version if not better (its definitely more stable!), BioShock on the 360 is better than the PC version. Infact even Crysis is supposedely getting a console release and we all know that Fallout is also to be released on the PS3 and 360.

Go for the PS3, you'll have alot more fun with mates. Besides most online PC gamers these days play either World of Warcraft or Counterstrike (dont have a problem with the latter, just I think its horribly outdated if you ask me).

PS3, any day of the week.

The likes of GTA IV won't be released on PC.

If you are willing to upgrade every year or so then get a gaming rig if not then stick with a PS3. I have pretty much given up on PC gaming and solely do any gaming on a console (my ps3), its hassle free.

How would I do it then?

Cheers.

What monitor do you have?

Whats more important is whats on the back, what kind of slots do you have on it?

As you can probably tell, I'm useless when it comes to computers. Anyway, from what I can tell, there is a Audio Line Out, a VGA Monitor port, and a slot for the Power Cable.

VGA! Bingo!

Ok, you wouldnt have a VGA cable running around would you? Or do you only have an HDMI one that came with your PS3?

The only cable I've got in the VGA slot is the one that's going into the PC.

To all you 'People' with consoles (who are above the age of 9 and actually bought there's)-
You are contributing to a one paradigm
/platform gaming world and should be ashamed to own and use a console.

You are taking money and resources away from PC gaming. Wake up. Go buy a graphics card, stop playing and start experiencing. PC's come with 104 button controllers and a unique 'mouse' interface
unmatched by these common 'con souls'.

I for one like knowing that the game experience I have is superior to that
of the poor dumbed down console user's
cloned X perience.

How many games suffer on PC because they were designed with the lowest common denominator in mind i.e. Playdoughstations and HexBoxes?

My last console was a colecovision and I have never looked back since getting a PC.

Vidiots.

I spent £350 on a 8800GTX recently

Guess what else I could buy with that money

PC's cost to much and like many have said, have to be upgraded constantly to handle the latest games. I am unwilling to spend in the region of thousands for a top-spec PC, only for it to be out of date in a few months.

On average consoles last 7/8 years untill a new version comes out, so your inital investment is well worth it.

£299 PS3 > £1500 'New' PC which becomes outdates in an hour. (or 2)

How much would one of these VGA cable's cost. If they are cheap enough, I'd be happy to get one and take a risk that it won't work, but if they are expensive, I'd like to know for certain that it'd would work.

Comparing a good gaming PC and a PS3 isn't really fair, a high spec PC will always piss all over the PS3 for GFX quality. The only problem is some games just won't be out on PC.

Having said that there are some quality titles out for PC that you can't get on PS3.

Why not just play it on your TV and avoid all the hassle?

I am at the moment. It's just that my PC monitor is much better than my TV, so if I can, I may aswell go through the PC monitor.
