PS3 Help!!

Hello guys,

I have bought an entry level PS3 (40GB), with the new PES08 game today and I am ready to pull my hair out over this thing!!!
I am a bit of a next gen console novice to be fair and I'm hoping a few of you lot can hel me with a couple of probs I'm having:

1. Do i have to own a HDTV to stop lagging (off or online)?
2. PES08.....the lag on this game is RIDICULOUS!!! I love PES but geeeeeez......(Could this be a HD related thing, and if so is there any hope of it woring on a standard LCD??)
3. What games should I buy next (I fancy a platform type game)?

But to answer your questions briefly

1. There is no suggestion that HDTV guarantees a lag free game. The problem is everyone is getting lesser or greater amounts of slowdown etc, with no apparent reason. I have a SDTV which plays the game better than my HDTV. Figure that out. Offline it still lags like crazy, even with the patch(which if you are connected to the net, you have to download before you play the game). Online is a mess. Not much else to be said.
2. Maybe another patch would sort it but the gameplay is still far too fast, and too easy to dribble the length of the pitch. Ruins it for me.
3. I only really play sorts games, so dunno what you ought to buy

cheers pal, yea i had read the thread but some were saying it worked and others not and it was way to confusing!!! Have you got any other games for the PS3 then - do they lag??? I mean, what Im trying to figure out is whther it is just PES that is sooooo bad for lagging?!?!

Yeah it's just PES that lags, all other games that I know of are fine.

It makes perfect sense. If the game is rendering to different size frame buffers depending upon the output resolution, then HDTV resolutions will take more processing time. Go figure though, GT5 has no problem with 200,000 polygons per car, Rachet and Clank outputs 60 frames per second no bother in a rather gorgeous environment. The game has simply been botched and realeased well before it was ready just to get in the Christmas cash. Says something about the suits at Konami.

I would expect any patch to be rather large, much of the codebase is trash.

Platform game? Rachet & Clank. If that's too "kiddy" for you, Uncharted has a lot of platforming elements.

arghhhhhh, im fuming! Just been to tescos to take it back as it is obviously flawed and they wont bloody exchange it - the cnuts?!!?! I even said Konami have stated on their website its basically flawed and they still wont fcuking exchange it!!!! am I just stuck with this sh1t hole of a game then?????!!!!!!!

Why should they exchange it? You've taken it out the wrapping which basically stops you returning any electrical product. There is nothing wrong with the game just the fact that Konami fecked up. Next time read reviews or rent games before you buy it.

...........hmmmmmmmmmmmm............got it exchanged as blagged that the statement on konami was stating it was faulty - good ol' tesco's, and fifa 08 is quality!!! Cheers for the advice though..... i will definately be reading reviews from now on, although one review site said it was 9.2/10 for the PES 08 game....?!?!

anyone know the best review sites for the PS3?

I get slowdowns during replays and entrance scenes, but not during gameplay. Then again, I've got the Japanese version. Shouldn't they be the same?
