Considering buying a 250gb Hard Drive for my PS3

Can i copy everything over to the new 1, Including game saves, game installs and downloaded games?

Or do I have to redo everything?

Help is appreciated :)

What i was going to do was

buy a 2.5 sata case, put the old 40gb into the case
copy over to my external 500gb
new 250gb hard drive, format it in the ps3
then put it into the case and copy back over.

that work?

the 500gb isnt formatted in Fat 32 and i don't wanna lose 400gb of data

I have an 80gb formatted in Fat 32, so If i plug it in to the ps3, and tell it to do a backup, that should work?

Just so you know all the details mate:

1. Plug an external FAT32 formatted drive into the USB port
2. Go to the System menu and choose Backup
3. Wait 2 hours
4. Follow the instructions found in this video - http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-change-a-playstation-3-hard-disc
5. After the restart, plug your external drive into the USB port again
6. Go to the System menu and choose Restore
7. Wait another 2 hours
8. After the restart, you're back as you were - all users, games, content, saves etc. restored

Be careful with the screw that holds in the drive. If you start to shear the head, just twist it off with a pair of pliers instead, as the head can be a little soft.

Cheers...
