PS3 Downloads very slow?!

its always slow though? and constantly takes fecking ages to download anything

Weaste posted something the other day about static ip's? i cant find it now

and how might I go about making sure that this is the case....?

I've described the process several times before.

My PS3 has the address 192.168.1.254 - I think. My main PC has the same at 192.168.1.253.

You can set those things in the settings of both. I can the with the PC port forward (to 192.168.1.253) to get certain apps going better, the PS3 (192.168.1.254) I place in the DMZ of the router. Port forwarding and DMZ server are options in the setup of your router. Turn UPnP on the PS3 off.

This should help a bit. Worked for me when I did it a while ago...

1) Install Privoxy

2) Open it and goto, "Options" -> "Edit Main Configuration" which opens a Notepad page with all the settings... and scroll down to the bit that says;

"listen-address 127.0.0.1:8118"

Now, you wanna change "127.0.0.1" to your computer IP address. To find it, go to Start -> Run -> "CMD", and hit enter.

In the CMD console, type, "ipconfig /all" and hit enter, a bunch of stuff comes up, look for the bit that says,

"IPv4 Address" - Next to this over on the right will be your IP address. Put that IP in the bit that I said above. Save that Notepad and close it.

Go to your PS3 network settings, do all your usual settings, and in the proxy part use the settings you just found. So, the IP address is the one you got from CMD and entered into Privoxy, and the port is, "8118".

just tried the proxy one and that didnt work

gunna try the other one now

well ive done that, and nothing seems to have changed. if anything they are slower :S

It does say that the router in use may not support IP fragments and the communication features of some games may be restricted

What type of router is it? It seems that whenever these type of problems pop up, it's always when someone is using the shitty free router provided by their ISP with shitty old custom firmware on it.

hmmm im at work at the moment so not sure of the model number, its a belkin wireless one that my dad brought about a year ago
