All of a sudden my ps3 won't read any games discs or dvd's. It's out of warranty, this June would be 2 years since I got it. Is this the end of it all or can it still be fixed somehow?

Thanks guys. I'll try to get that part and fix it myself, got nothing to lose I guess. And the lense cleaner before I dismantle the whole thing.

Is it just games/Blu-Rays that it won't read or DVDs/CDs too?

I believe that there are seperate lenses for each disk type. The Blu-Ray lens diode (or something) is notoriously bad on earlier phat models. Mine went but it would still read DVDs & CDs fine.

It's both, unfortunately. Tried a few games, some of them wouldn't even start loading, some of them start and then get stuck. The dvd's don't even get recognised at all, the CD symbol never appears on the screen. Didn't try any audio CD's but I guess it would be the same.

I don't know about the slim, but the original PS3s had three different lasers, one for CD, one for DVD, and one for BD - single lens. It's highly unlikely that all of them have failed, so it's either a lens problem or a motor problem that moves the lens head. This is actually quite easy to fix.
