Am I right in thinking that if I have one of those slimline PS2's, all I have to do to play online is stick a cable (ethernet?) into the back of the PS2 and into the modem or will I need a router?

Yup, thats how I do it here...(I do use a router though so the internet can be used as well, but it should work directly)
Right I looked it up and it says I just need a line straight from the modem to the back of my PS2. For some stupid reason my parents' modem doesnt have a connection for a normal sized ethernet cable, just a little one.
At some point i'm going to attempt to stick a router into the modem so I can use my computer instead of theirs (which im using now) but I don't see how I can when there is only 1 connection point on the modem and that is for a smaller wire.
