Hey Ho Peeps,

I've been given a PS2 (which is nice!). The down side is that it didnt come with any games.

I therefore need your help. What are the best games for the PS2 (doesnt matter how old).

Best action? Best sport game/footy? Best platform? Best adventure?

(Links to lists welcome to)

all suggestions appreciated
cheers

Shadow of the Collosus is an amazing game, I'd recommend that to anyone look for a PS2 game.

Some of my other favourites are Final Fantasy X, Tekken 5, God of War 2, Pro Evo 5, Resident Evil 4. Can't go wrong with a PS2, loads of great games.

Hell yeah. Although I enjoyed ICO slightly more. Same type of game, same feel, just thought it was slightly better.

You should just get it chipped. I still play mine and have got about a hundred games I have not finished.

Okami
ICO
Shadow of the Collosus
MGS 3
Final fantasy X
God of War I + II
GTA: San Andreas
Katamari Damacy
Resident Evil 4

I have a feckload of games i'm looking to sell...wanna sell the PS2 itself too though, and it would be worth alot more as a complete bundle

A few that haven't been mentioned:

Mercenaries - Free roaming shooter, where you get to blow the hell out of North Korea

Manhunt - A dark cross between the Running Man and The Warriors, good fun and nicely presented.

Rise to Honor - Motion captured Jet Li kung-fu game. Not the best game in the world, but the best at portraying smooth martial arts that I've seen.

Dark Cloud 2 (aka: Dark Chronicle) - 3D RPG that is quite big and doesn't have a turn based fighting system (You just twat things with a big wrench).

SOCOM - Special forces shooter, any of the series are really enjoyable.

Due to PS1 compatibility, get Crash Team Racing if you can find that anywhere. One of the most addictive games of all time. Tekken Tag Tournament also a great game (features like Tekken Bowling were awesome). Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is the best footie game and I still find SSX 3 a very entertaining game to play. Finally, James Bond: 007 Nightfire just never gets old.

Star Wars: Battlefront II
Tekken 4
The whole GTA series (well, the main releases rather than sub plot games)
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec
PES 6
Dragonball Z

Depends what genre you're into really.

Looking for a wide spectrum of stuff really. Bit o variety. Havent been into console games for ..... hmmm ..... a long time so time to expand my prefrences

Driving - Gran Turismo
Fighting - Tekken 4
Shooting - Star Wars Battlefront 2
Football - PES 6
Misc - GTA 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas

Not sure if it's still there, but there was a shop in the Arndale down near the old Milletts that was doing really cheap pre-owned PS2 games.

I'll have a hunt through what we've got left - Tomb Raider Anniversary wasn't bad either.

this man knows his onions.

the best PS2 game there is and the only one I kept when I bought a PS3.

Cheers dude. Kept the first one too :D

Decent list, though I'd add Tekken Tag or 5 to the list, and a Pro Evo game. FFX should be in the top 10 too.

25.) SSX Tricky - awesome game, don't both with SSX3 though.
13.) Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution - and no Tekken? Poor list.
12.) Final Fantasy X - stunning game. My only tip - persevere and get good at blitzball or suffer later in the game.

I expect that they've banded a few of the games together, with MGS2 being adequately playable if you can't find MGS3 in the pre-owned section.

As for the GTA series, can't go wrong with 3, Vice City or San Andreas as already mentioned, with the latter one being considerably different in feel.

PES4 or PES6 were the best, although I didn't play 2008 on the PS2 so that's probably better anyway.

Lego Star Wars is good, as embarrassing as it is for a 34-year-old to say that!

Since I have one of those shitty EU PS3s with practically zero B-compatibility, i've just bagged myself a PS2 for a tenner, result!

Looking forward to putting the hours into Persona 3 + 4

I love those two Persona games, i just wish i'd played 3 first as 4's system is quite a bit better.

You are going to have a good old time playing those.

Aye thats what Im hearing, deffo starting 3 first. Oh and btw is there any difference between Persona 3 and Persona 3: FES, I bought the latter.

I take it I should also play Yakuza and Yakuza 2 before 3 right?

I never played either of the Yakuza's but there's a long video package that covers the story within 3, so i didn't feel like i missed much. If you want to play them though go for it.

Persona 3: FES is Persona 3 but with an extra maybe 15/20 hours on the end. When you start up you can choose to play the story or the "answer", play the story first. The only major issue i had with it was that you can't control your other party members in battle so you need to keep your fingers crossed at times.

I love the beginning cutscene of 3, and they've both got some fantastic music. I would post up the battle music from 3 but it'd be best if you wait and hear it in game, it's very different from every JRPG battle theme i've ever heard.

Decent list IGN has but they neglect God of War 2 and GTA Vice City/San Andreas because of GTA 3 and God of War although they should fit on that list.

God of War Games
Kingdom Hearts Games
GTA games
Tekken/Mortal Kombat games for fighting
Shadow of Colossus is a must. Sadly haven't played ICO but I'll recommend it by reputation.
Ratchet & Clank games
