Problem - United is the Destination, not the Journey

I think too many players join United thinking that if they make it to the first team, they can just do the job of being a United player and enjoy the perks of fame and fortune rather than having to win anything. So they don't have that hunger. This is a mentality the Glazers have instilled with their 4th place ambitions. There is no hope until the Glazers are gone or United is so unsuccessful (relegation or financial ruin) that this will stop. Discuss?

It is the destination and that should never change.

The only issue as you’ve mentioned, most of them don’t earn their keep and stay as freeloaders. I’m sure the club know an evaluation process should be in place but it’s more likely centred around commercial revenue.

We are too busy making them popular than asking them to deliver on the pitch. Apart from Di Maria wanting out, we’ve never sold a high value asset that is underperforming. Lukaku was a bum and it was a poor football decision selling him as our needs since he left have shown.

Till this club and owners start holding these freeloaders to account, future is bleak. The owners can’t to be honest because they gave us this default settings.

If you search ' the candle problem' on YouTube, you might agree with me thought that after a ceiling of, say, 300 000 quid a month, any worker, artist, or sportsman who needs to be creative loses that edge because rewards have a certain effect on everything creative.

Our players are overpaid. Many things come with that territory. E.g. laziness on the training ground, favouritism, disrespect for the manager, the influence of agents and PR team. All of this and more. If a player thinks it is desirable to project a goody goody image of himself, then he will not think twice in betraying his team or coach.

What a load of shite!
United have spent enough money on players under the Glazer ownership to have won three titles at least so there is no problem in that regard.
It seems really hard at the moment but we just need to get the right players at the right age and with a winning mentality but that is the formula for any sport.

I agree. I seem to recall Sir Alex insisted on being more well-paid than all the players because there is some sort of law of the jungle where how much you earn matters in terms of respect. Is Sancho more well-paid than EtH? Probably.

One of the biggest problem with the club is rewarding mediocrity.

The problem is the comical contracts that the club hands out to players that specific managers insist they want.

The players are not worthy of such contracts, and the managers - who are not good enough either - are soon sacked, and this process is repeated manager after manager, leading to a club bloated with average players on elite player wages.

Even the contract recently handed out to Rashford was ridiculously overblown.

It’s just a laughably run club from the top down. Until there’s a change in ownership the same pathetic leadership decisions will continue.

I don’t see Bayern handing out utterly ridiculous contracts or transfer fees. They do have a huge advantage hoovering up talent in their league though and 100% are the destination for that part of the world which helps.

We used to be but now by our own actions it’s getting more and more just hand over cash. That’s not a smart business model.

Especially since we now see you can’t sell the players with our model.

United's problem runs deeper then certain individuals. Its a club geared solely to make profit. Which means that they strip the manager from a decent preseason training as players needs to be jetted around across the whole US continent (erm country) to make money. It means that we hire substandard football people who are too grateful for the job to try and push the boat too much. That leads to us buying and players on silly money/salary which we then struggle to get rid off. It means that players have to train in inadequate training facilities and a leaking stadium. That lowers morale and give the impression that the bar is set low. It means that the manager can't get rid of the dead wood which then leads to those players working against that same manager which leads to leaks and bad performances.

As Rangnick said we need an open heart surgery which means that the whole structure needs to stripped and rebuilt from stadium, training facilities, football staff and players. We need to instill a mentality were only the best will do and anything less will find itself out no matter what. That means that we need new owners with very deep pockets.

Good environment -> Bad apples came in -> Bad environment

It's that simple.

Pogba was a prime example of Utd being the destination. After 6 years of mainly shit football, bloated injuries and 290k a week he derided Murtoughs offer of 300k upgrade as an insult. He then signed for Juve for around 160k a week.
