Finally Rio will be unvailed to the rest of the world at O.T

He has signed a 5 year deal.

Should be live on Sky Sports News. :) <img src="graemlins/devil.gif" border="0" alt="[Devil]" />

This is not offcial news it is just what Sky Sports News understands.

Just been on TalkSport that he has passed his medical!

Good signing, but will have far too much pressure on him if he isn't perfect in his first few games.

Still think we need to add Finnan and cover on the left/right of midfield.

It's going to be on TalkSport, but still hasn't happened!

The deal has been complete.

Not sure if the Press conference has started as the Sky News idiots are stuck at Westminster.

Press Release

The Board of Manchester United PLC is pleased to announce that an agreement has been signed with Leeds United PLC for the transfer of the registration of Rio Ferdinand to Manchester United FC. Ferdinand has agreed a 5-year contract commencing immediately.

The maximum consideration, including associated costs, under the agreement is £33.3m, which would result in a value to Leeds United PLC for the player of £30m. Of this sum, £15m is payable immediately and £14.3m is payable in July 2003. The balance, up to a maximum of £4m, will be payable during the contract period depending on the team performance of Manchester United.

Peter Kenyon says: “I am delighted that the deal with Rio has been completed. He is a young yet very experienced player who we hope will have a long and successful career at Manchester United. We believe the transfer fee we have agreed with Leeds is the right one and properly reflects Rio’s age, experience and profile. Buying a 23 year-old England international who has played in the Champions League and the World Cup finals represents a sound long-term investment in the team’s future.”

Sir Alex Ferguson says: “I am really pleased that Rio has agreed to come to Old Trafford. He is a world-class defender with the experience of having played at the very highest level of the game, both for club and country. He is also a fine young man who will fit into the squad extremely well and I am sure he will prove to be a big hit with the fans.”

Rio Ferdinand says: “I am delighted to be joining one of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United. I’m really looking forward to the new season and I can’t wait to run out in a United shirt at Old Trafford for my first home game, which I hope will be the UNICEF benefit match against Boca Juniors on August 10th.”

He can now officially be called Scum.

So the Sun was on the ball. 15m now, 14.3 next year and 4m extra on whatever conditions.

Should leave extra something to spend this summer :D

Ananova. More quotes...

Rio: "I've made this decision so I can improve myself as a player, after discussion with my friends and family.

"It's a short career, opportunities don't come around like this all the time, so this is a step in the right direction for me.

"I joined Leeds, who had great players, and now I've come to another club which has great players. I'm going to grab the opportunity with both hands."

SAF: "First and foremost he is potentially a great player and it was not going to be easy to get him here.

"The board wanted this as much as I did, because his talent is fairly obvious."

:D

What are these conditions? - it sounds like a spread bet by Leeds on United. They will be throwing points to us not that they need to.

<a href="http://www.manutd.com/news/fullstory.sps?inewsid=19401" target="_blank">Rio to wear #6, Blanc #5</a>

does this mean that he jumps ahead of Vieri and Buffon on the most expensive transfers list when we win silver next season?

I haven't seen any real details on that and Kenyon said nothing either. It's 'performance related' to United.

I guess it does mean they should let us win both matches every season for several years. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Anyhow, people who saw the full thing: Was Sir Alex asked about more signings and if so - what did he say?

And if he said 'Yes', did Mr. Kenyon suddenly fainted?

<a href="http://www.teamtalk.com/252Radio" target="_blank">web page</a></strong><hr></blockquote>Are you listening to the bitter sheep fan, Paul, now?

What a twat.

"Rio aint that good"

"Kewell's better than Giggs"

"Venables is a better manager than Fergie"

"Bowyer is our fav player"

"Proper Leeds fans say Rio isn't fit to wipe Bowyers back side"

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

the quality of the sound of the real audio link BBC posted wasn't very good so I'm not sure, but from what I heard he said (laughingly):

"The club's gone bust now"

The journalists just laughed and didn't pursue for a serious answer...

Ah good. So he just didn't want to give them anything for headlines like 'Fergie: It isn't over yet!'.
