Pretty insane amount of money. The top 6 all virtually earned the same (difference of about 10m between the highest & and the lowest). But even Sunderland got close to 100m which is more than Leicester last season. What a great time to get promoted.

For all the talk of entertainment, competitiveness etc, the TV revenue sharing model is really one of the best things about the PL. So good for clubs who aren't among the top ones.

That's ridiculous. Just think of the future when England starts its own network with it's own streaming rights ( it will happen someday)
We could see scary numbers.

Yep. As well as parachute payments.

The EPL is a proper union between 20 clubs, instead of two or three powerful clubs dictating to the rest. The competition benefits from it too.

On the other hand, we'd be blowing the likes of Real out of the water if only the PL adopts the La Liga model...

I think that's an inevitability anyways with the way money is flowing to the PL. Even if it doesnt work out that way, I still prefer this model. Its great for the league.

It's a great model for the clubs in the league (and I always wondered why the majority of the Spanish clubs didn't grow a set when the big two were hoarding it all). Not so good for the leagues who don't have the power to generate any TV revenue.

Looking at those = numbers among all teams...imagine Real and Barca accepting anything similar, they would rather step out of league then let anything like it to happen.

I believe that Sunderland make more than Barca and Real do selling solo. certainly close.

The top Premier League clubs are also cashing in big time with corporate sponsorship deals which bring in mega-money every season, such is the power of showing PL games worldwide. Qualifying for the CL at one time meant that a club could afford more money for players, but consistent failure not to finish in the top 3 or 4 could spell disaster i.e Leeds Utd. Although the extra cash is still welcome, it's not the be-all & end-all if you don't qualify because of all the extra income revenues that are being generated. It's something of a paradox though insofar as the richer the top English clubs get, the further away we seem to get in terms of winning the Champions League.

Because the socialist distribution of money means there's no concentration of top players in 1 or 2 clubs like La Liga or Bundesliga.

They no longer sell solo and their take of La Liga's TV money is around €150M (£131M) so quite a bit higher than Sunderland's.

The total amount distributed to La Liga clubs is €1.3bn and like I said Real and Barca both get around €150M so 11.5% of the total. If we took 11.5% of the Premier League's TV money (£2.4bn) we'd earn £276M (€315M) which is slightly more than Real and Barca make combined.

No. According to Delloite, Madrid make 170m and Barca make around 150m so its not close and they make more than the top teams in England.

The La Liga model has changed and is now more like the PL

For La Liga

  • Equal share: 50% will be distributed equally between all 20 top flight clubs
  • Merit Money: 25% will be distributed according to league positions based on last 5 years.
  • Resources Generation: 25% will be distributed according to each team’s capacity of generating resourses for examble number of official club members, season tickets sold, attendance etc.

People should remember this chart when they are about to complain about transfer fees and player wages.

I think it's slightly less than that.

Are you saying parachute payments are a good thing? They give a competitive advantage in the Championship for those teams that were relegated in the recent past from the Premier League. Pretty ironic when people laud the PL for its competitive distribution model. Spain does it a lot better: the top division distributes to all clubs in the second highest division.
