TEAM CRAPPY

Things to note:

  • Back 6 is super solid. All teams in the draft will find it near impossible to break through the midfield of Makelele and Roy Keane. Makelele passing ability from the back is underrated, he will sit at the back and partly play role of deep lying playmaker with short passes. Keane will play his usual B2B role with even more aplomb.
  • Sol Campbell is still one of the best CB in PL era. Southgate is a solid partner for him with seasoned record for Villa and Boro in PL. Dixon and Pearce ever reliable full backs proven in their time in 90s. Martyn at the back is a rock solid keeper for PL era.
  • Attack has a proper winger in Ginola who will win fair share of their match ups against the opposing full back. Sanchez is proven wing forward in PL who will create and score, he will be looking to exploit the gap between LCB and LB forcing back the opposing left back who is attacking in nature.
  • Zola will play the roaming role in the hole and drift on the park as required. He has proven in PL that he can attack from the wing so he will even swap with Sanchez as required at times and drop deep in midfield to run counter attacks. Andy Cole is a finisher, the creators like Zola, Ginola and Sanchez will crave.

Player highlights:
  • Campbell made PL team of the year in 98/99, 02/03, 03/04. He has experience of playing with Southgate who had 50+ caps for England.
  • Keane PFA/FWA PL player of the year for 99/00. Made PL team of the year for 92/93, 96/97, 99/00, 00/01, 01/02. United player of the year in 99 and 00.
  • Makelele Chelsea player of the year in 2005/6 and FIFA 11 in 2005.
  • Ginola PFA/FWA PL player of the year in 98/99, made the PFA team in 98/99 and 95/96. Made FIFA 11 in 96.
  • Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal player of the year in 2014/15 and 2016/17 seasons. Made PFA team of the year in 2014/15.
  • Zola FWA player of the year for 96/97 and Chelsea player of the year in 98/99, 2002/3.
  • Cole won golden boot for 93/94 season and made PL team of the season for 99/00.

TEAM BORIS

Depp line, two banks of 4, defensive shape, right back stays back all the time, left back looks to get slightly advanced to get balls into the box. The front two will put immense pressure on any defence, on the ground or aerially, to feet or in behind.

The tactics are simple, launch the ball forward, look to win set pieces and throw ins, and second balls. Load the box with some combination of Adams, Matip, Ivanovic, Bale, Ballack, Shearer, Drogba.

Ederson is the primary playmaker, where he will look to boot the ball as high and as far as he can.

Just to quickly add a bit more;

Basically going for some form of Pulis ball.

Literally smash balls toward the opponents corner flags, put pressure on to win second balls, force fouls, throw ins, and corners.

Delap some may argue is out of his depth, but another argument would be that he is the one true GOAT on the pitch.

Kolarov will play a more reserved role than he normally would, allowing direct left winger period Bale space to play 1v1 against Dixon and smash crosses into the box for Shearer/Drogba/Ballack coming in late.

Rice obviously in the Glen Whelan role.

Would look to Drogba to pull on to Southgate as often as possible.

I do wonder what Andy Cole's number of goals scored relative to his expected goals would have been.

Best of luck Boris. Nice match up.

Ignoring match ups, I do believe I have more quality on average on the pitch.

Shearer and Drogba are the obvious threat. But this is where the non threat of opposition right wing of Delap and Ivanovic helps since it will allow Pearce to tuck in more often than not and add a body to compete with the two forwards. Bale vs Dixon will have to be mitigated by the GOAT DM closing the space Bale would want to attack. Kolarov will have to abandon his attacking game due to Sanchez in any case.

Midfield wise, there is simply no one here for opposition to build any kind of tempo or possession. Ballack is his best CM (though played outside his peak in PL) and he is not the kind to control midfield singlehandedly. Zola, Keane and Makelele are just too over powered here for opposition in central area. On attacking side: Sanchez, Ginola, Zola and Cole have more than enough quality to consistently trouble his defence and make it count.

Fairly confident that I would win this match up 70-80% of the time.

I think this is an overstated belief among United fans. Regardless Sanchez is a very handy goal threat too. He would double up as second striker often when Zola or Ginola are creating.

If you wanted to misspell Drogba, I would have preferred Dogbra instead of Drigba

You do have other gaol threats that's true although IIRC Sanchez was better on the left.

On Cole, from memory he missed a lot of easy chances but scored some spectacular goals and scored some very difficult finishes.

I have no interest in midfield control from a possession point of view, it's about getting the two banks of four in place, closing down central spaces, forcing you out wide to cross from deep.

Point taken on the right hand side, should have planned for Delap in CM.
