Premier League and Football League announce postponement of fixtures 8-11 September 2023

The Premier League in conjunction with The Football league have announced the postponement of fixtures for the weekend of September 8 to the 11 2023 to mark one year since Queen Elizabeth II died.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters says he was delighted to reach a decision that ensures no matches are played. "The passing of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the darkest day in modern times and it wouldn't be right to play football." Masters said.

The Football League has also suspended fixtures for that weekend, though it is unknown at this point if non-league matches will be played.

What do we think about this? Seems unnecessary to me and more fixture headaches next season

The passing of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the darkest day in modern times and it wouldn't be right to play football.
Truly nothing worse has ever happened.

Never should have been cancelled last year, doing it again is mental.

Need to get rid of the monarchy. fecking archaic.

At least they've given clubs plenty of time to prepare.

Would have been foolish to be announce it later than April...

Oh well, might as well choke some horse of the queens guard to truly honour it.

I found it weird when they cancelled all those games when she died. But this is really getting ridiculous now. Monarchies, eh!
