Are we too predicatable now having been together as a team for so long? Is it not time to bring new people in? Give the next lot of younsters a chance..........they may have won us that worthless trophy.........worthless it may be.........but it is still a cup and they should have given it their all.........it was a CUP FINAL...........I would rather we went out in the first round than lose in the final the Liverpool!

Regarding the squad being togther for too long, look at the 99 squad and compare to the squad today.

As a percentage, how many of the players are different?

No:

Schmeichel
Van Der Gouw
Stam
Johnsen
Irwin
Berg
Greening
Blomqvist
Nevland
Cole
Yorke
Sheringham

Any more?

Why have you put Nevland in there???

To extend the list presumably.

He was in the squad wasn't he?

They were the ones that instantly came to mind.

Approx. 100% of our goalkeepers, 75% of our attack, and 66% of our defence has changed since then. Not to mention Blomqvist who in my opinion is a player we have seriously lacked recently to give the wings some competition. Ok, we have cover in Fortune, but since 99, the cover has been seriously effected by injury at times, be it Blomqvist or Fortune. Apart from that, it is only really our midfield that is basically the same as it was in 99, and before the start of this season there were very few who had any beef with the quality of our midfield.

Not to mention the fact that we replaced both of the replacements the following season. Maybe the best indicator of how hard it can be to replace squad members and as good a reason as any not to resort to the transfer market every time we get the jitters about a player from one or two bad games.

One could argue that we are predictable precisely because our midfield is the same.

One could argue that black was white and many here would :p

Given that everyone said we had the best midfield in Europe in Keane, Scholes, Giggs & Beckham you would hardly be likely to change things though. The addition of Veron was intended to add a new creative dimension to this midfield and remove the predictability which had seen us struggle in the latter stages in Europe in 2000 and 2001. Many of Veron's performances of late (particularly in Europe) show that he is beginning to fulfil this potential.

The problem with Veron is that he isn't allowed the time on the ball in the Premiership that he does in Europe.

No that's not his problem, the problem is Keane wants to be the play maker (see sunday), he plays better when he is allowed to be the playmaker (see juve away), coincidely giggs plays beetter when Veron is the main playmaker.

If at this stage push come to shove, who would you rather have, Veron or Keane?

Ok........we seem to have got rid of all the strong reliable ones!

When did you last see Beckham tackle? I have seen him jump out of more lately than get stuck in! And whatever happened to running with the ball...........can't footballers do that anymore? Stop kick cross......stop kick cross........and believe me I have seen it so many times............not missed a home game this season...........I think we are becoming repetative.......if I can see it then other teams must see it...........be honest.........RVN works so hard but cannot get anywhere half the time cos he has 3 or 4 defenders round him straight away...........again predictable...........who have we got to sneak up and score whilst he is being bombarded?

This is all just my opinion!

When I see RVN surrounded by 2 or 3 defenders, I'm also thinking well that means somebody's gotta be free if he's getting that much attention. But for some reason, we can't seem to exploit that...

I agree, the poor bloke runs his arse off all over the place.........on Sunday when Beckham 'gave up' on a tackle Ruud was in there as if.........'give it bloody here I'll do it then'............he is not being allowed to play.........and he is brilliant.........top man

:D

I know that kind of problem as well at PSV. But now we have an other attacksystem. The two wingers (Robben and Rommedahl) are both very fast and mostly the back needs some assistance to stop them. But Kezman also moves a lot and he attracks also two defenders.
Kezman scores a lot at PSV, but our whole team is scoring. I think you miss that a little. You're focussing all the time on a partner striker for Ruud, but I think you'll be better off with a player who comes from the midfield to assist the attack when you have the ball and returns to the midfield again when you lost the ball...
I think Keane would be perfect to play in that role but as you need him in the defending role more, I think you should buy someone. I can't name anyone else than van Bommel, but as one of his kids is ill, he'd possible not move to another club.
But I assume there are quite some more players who can play in this role.

for the life of me i can't understand why everyone is so crazy about vbommel.. he might play well for psv at national club level but at international level he's outclassed by almost everyone.. vbommel is good against teams who have no real good midfield (aka every dutch team) but as for european (world) class players he's crap.

And he has no personality, which is the main issue if you want a midfielder who can control a game..

(sorry PSVRulezz if i blew your bubble)

and incase SAF wants to buy another midfielder (what i would find very surprising) he should buy Cocu.. any team with this guy in it is a sure winner (especially in the PL)

No personality??? Ask Davids... Van Bommel is a real personality, that's why everybody who dislikes PSV hates him and he's our captain...

Maybe the folks at Man Utd remember 26th Septembre 2000. Van Bommel is certainly suited for a bigger job, but he needs teammates surrounding him who are of the same level to beat a European topteam...
Cocu is indeed a great player. But I think he'd be more suited for the defending part of the midfield. And besides that he's now injured and we'll have to wait how he will recover. I think he might return to PSV next year. And then play for two more years and then end his career.

We'll buy Park Ji-Sung off you to be our 4th striker then.

Ji-Sung is not a real striker. He plays a bit like van Bommel. A bit more from the sides though. Still not sure about his level. Hasn't played a lot, at the moment he gets some rest coz he's very tired. But when I see him at trainings, I must say that he looks quite okay. Has a nice overview of the game and can also give nice passes. Though I'm not sure if he is a player who runs lots of miles during a match...
