--------------------------------------------- TEAM HARMS/EAP ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEAM CHESTER ---------------------------------------------

TEAM HARMS/EAP

Formation: 4-3-3 (False 9)

Tactics:

Team is built around peak F9 Messi.

Solid defence with good blend of solidity and ball playing ability.
Deschamps as the defensive pivot with two all round B2B CMs in Masopust and Modric. Both are top notch creators from the deep with high workrate and ability to bridge defence and offence.
Messi pulling the string in a free role between midfield and offence.
Brilliant goal scorers and all round players in Signori and Kalle who are comfortable out wide and in the box and able to score and create.

TEAM CHESTER

Offensive 4-4-2/4-3-3 hybrid

GK:
Yashin
RB: Bezsonov - balanced/offensive
CB: Chumpitaz
CB: Bossis
LB: Breitner - balanced/offensive
CM/DM: Bozsik - playmaker
CM/DM: Davids
RW: Johnstone
LW/LWF: Charlton - outside/inside (as in: both)
SS/AM: Totti
CF: Spencer

NOTE ON CHARLTON:

While this is not Charlton's best role, historically, it is nevertheless a role (as I interpret it anyway) he played on numerous occasions for both United and England - and, more importantly, he did so not long before he hit his absolute prime (in a more central role). In other words, this is a familar role for Charlton - that he performed in at a very high level.

@Chesterlestreet , that Breitner pick makes me so angry for so many reasons.

Firstly, you pick him for left back, and even though he was world class there, both @Pat_Mustard and I could have desperately used him in midfield. And then, without even a bit of consideration for his feelings, you pit him against his beloved Kalle.

Didn't Boszik normally play alongside more of a DM rather than a B2B?

I'd say he normally played alongside a far more limited player than Davids.

I don't see any need to replicate that, though, as it wouldn't accomplish anything beyond weakening the midfield combo as such. I think Davids with his more direct style should compliment Bozsik well - and he's miles better than any real-life partner Bozsik ever had.

I'm not doubting Davids' quality, he is actually one of the best players to take on Messi. My question is really one of role. I imagine that you intend for one of them to go forward and one to stay and take turns. My concern is that it will limit Bozsik and/or be a bit of a defensive liability with Messi drifting between the lines.

I think that's just a calculated risk given the available players. In my case, I could have added an extra body in the middle (Zito) - but ultimately, I think that would've ended up looking a bit clumsy.

The setup is decidedly offensive - you either buy that (and conclude there's enough creativity and firepower to win it), or you don't. There's no middle way, really - I mean, Davids/Bozsik is what I would call a well balanced pair/pivot: there's a bit of everything there, including defensive positioning/nous, but it's obvious that neither of them is a defensive specialist. So, again, either you buy the idea that this decidedly offensive setup is what gets the most out of the players - or...not.

Fair enough, I just don't seeing working against Messi.

Generic question for everyone.

Say Charlton was playing as a LCM in a 3 man midfield, can he do a marking job on Messi when he drops deep like he did on Beckenbauer? I know they are different animals all together but its an interesting thought to ponder about. I personally think he can.

I'm not sure. Charlton is wonderfully all-rounded but while he was well-suited to man-mark Beckenbauer (they're pretty similar physically/athletically), trying to stop one of the greatest dribblers of all-time with a significantly lower center of gravity is not a task I'd ask him to perform. You need someone like Zanetti for that (going by the proven examples).

By the way @Chesterlestreet — I'm not sure if @Edgar Allan Pillow is interested to leading the team forward but if he's not, I say that you should get a pass for this round and continue forward. I'm not really in the condition or mood to take the team back at the moment.

How are you feeling now? Are you recovering well?

How are you doing, mate? Is your friend ok?

What was your original plan for the team?

Something similar even though I’d probably pick a different CB etc. Signori is an interesting pick that I probably wouldn’t have thought of.

Physically yeah, it’ll maybe take another month or so. Mentally, not really.

I can imagine how shaken up you must be. Just take your time and give yourself time. It will be a process I’m sure.

I probably haven’t mentioned it outside of private convos (don’t really keep track) but I’m referring to my friend dying in the same crash (as well as three other people), not that I’m too fussed about my injuries or have PTSD (early times though). So yeah :(

Here’s a mood-killer for you all!

That is absolutely terrible. I didn’t want to ask after I saw you mentioned him initially. I feared the worst. You have to give yourself time and be good to yourself. That is such a massive shock and it will take you a long time to process it all and to start to grieve your friend.

Very sorry to hear it and if you ever need a chat, PM me

Horrible stuff, mate - very sorry to hear all this.

Stay strong - it will get better.
