For clarification,

Use this thread only to read tweets. If you wish to comment on them, use the player's related thread. If the player doesn't have one yet, create a thread quoting the tweet so that discussion can take place.

Posts that do not comply will simply be deleted.

I don't think the memo was really picked up on last thread mark and so posters are confused when what they write in this thread subsequently disappears via deletion, but this is to reiterate and save yourselves posts that will be erased for being posted in here.

We already have the tweet feed for people who only want to read tweets. I really don't understand the overzealous modding of what was always a thread to react and have a brief discussion around tweets. By all means moderate overly long conversations but this makes no sense to me when the feed is available.

I agree with this. Removing posts simply reacting to tweets doesn't make sense. Not every player is going to have their own thread, especially the non-Utd threads.

The United transfer thread has actually become the bastardised version of what the thread is intended for and if you look in any of the other transfer tweet threads, they are the ones running as intended.

There are complaints/reports about the irreverent convos had in this thread from those who wish to read tweets and not breakaway, random strings of conversation, which is understandable, as we literally have a whole subforum here to talk about players who have transfer speculation hovering over their heads.

Taking the relevant tweet to that specific player’s thread and discussing it in full there, avoids this and prevents posts - even breakaway, irreverent ones - from being deleted.

And those people aren't aware of the feed which only shows tweets, I take it?

It was developed for that very purpose and still refers to this thread as 'the discussion thread' giving you an option to reply to the tweet in here so the site itself is encouraging it.

Long convos should be moderated but I don't understand why we have a tweet only feed and a tweet only thread. It seems all the work to develop the feed is now a wasted effort. If that's what's your going with I won't post in here again but it makes no logical sense. This seems like the sledge hammer to crack an egg analogy.

Totally agree. We went through this a year or two ago resulting in the splitting of the threads. Some conversations involve multiple players and don’t belong in the players thread.

So now we need a ‘general transfer discussion thread’?

I come here for the conversations around the tweets as well as the tweets themselves. If I just want an update on the tweets I go to the tweets feed.

Surely it was set up this way for that exact reason?

I agree, we already have a tweets only thread - why can’t that be pinned at the top of the transfer forum and on the front page of the site?

I would admit finding that feed is a bit convoluted & is a bit tricky to find, putting it somewhere where it’s easy to find solves all the complaining “why aren’t there any new tweets, it’s just discussion”

I think we should be allowed to discuss things (to a degree) in here, but to shut it down completely, completely nullifies that other feed.

In which case might aswell lock it down and have @mazhar13 update it themselves complete with Tier ratings.

Maybe take the "Reply in Discussion" button out of the transfer tweet thing then, as that's exactly what people are doing.

Agree with everyone else it makes no sense to duplicate the tweets feed with a tweets thread.

Agree the conversations can get widely off topic, and those should be removed and moderated, but to have no discussion at all seems daft.

The reason the other transfer tweet discussion threads work as intended, is because less people care less about those players so they won’t be as passionate about it.

Less interest = Less discussion.

Makes total sense for a man utd forum to have more discussion about man utd twitter rumours on potential transfers.

To say that “its working as intended” feels a little disingenuous when it’s on topics (other teams transfers) that 95% of us don’t care about.

This is an ongoing discussion in the mod forum as to where to eventually move the needle to. As I said before, you are aware of one side, which is the message exchange, but not those complaining about the exact same conversations because they shouldn’t actually be in the tweet thread.

The other tweet threads are exactly how the United version should run, with broader conversation taken to the player’s thread. The problem is, that doesn’t happen, and that invariably gets backs up.

I think most people's comments are with regards to the actual tweets feed that we have in place though. If people are complaining about any discussion at all, then why can't they use that feed for exactly what they want?

I won't keep repeating this point though, so I'll stop clogging this thread up with this new discussion.

I honestly don't believe it's fair to compare the two for the same reasons I've listed above. Other teams and teams abroad transfers won't generate as much discussion so it seemingly 'runs smoother'

There's less discussion and people aren't as passionate so you won't get that back and forth that you get in here.

I much preferred when all tweets where in the same thread.

It keeps me up to date. It’s boring having to navigate different tweet threads

Personally I think back and forth over tweets is fine. Where it stems for me and we can cut down on is discussion that goes down rabbit holes and tangents. It requires a bit of self modding aswell as staff modding.

That's where it gets too much I agree

All comments are being taken onboard as we’ve known this as a jovial refuge, even amongst transfer window madness and I agree with the above as I am as guilty as anyone of rabbit-holing in here.

I understand if you're getting lots of reports but are those complaining aware that they can check the Twitter Feed though? It only has tweets and nothing else. Are they not aware that it's there?

You click on the menu and it even tells if there's new tweets added since your last visit.

Whatever happened to the fella that clogged the thread up - a tweet every minute like "Walsall Under-16s signed Timmy Thomas from Ratford Rovers for £100" stuff

He was a troll who got bored when he realised it was worth more effort than the attention he was getting from it. The fact the mods allowed it for so long was ridiculous in itself.

I always viewed the transfer tweets tab on the top as the way to read the tweets themselves without commentary and discussion about the tweet was fair game in this thread.

Are you supposed to quote the tweet and <insert quotes> in the player thread and discuss there? Sometimes transfer targets don't have separate threads.

I remember Fridge. They weren't a troll. I personally did find it a bit annoying, although feel bad they were abused and had to stop.

I think the mods should have just added their username as one of the filters, then anyone who didn't want to see them in the feed could have them hidden. Would have been a funny development.

I like just the tweets, first thing I read in the morning and in the evening. I don’t like having to scroll through all the reactions and other posts to find the tweets. Maybe impopulair opinion.

I think this was why we ended up with separate threads for United/Europe/Other etc.

There is now a banner above the text box where you respond so there should be no confusion about the rules in this thread now!

I do as of 5 minutes ago. Looks good, people should get to chat here.
No issue if it’s relevant. But wading through 2 pages of irrelevant posts is too much. It’s not the general forum.

Anyways I’ll clean it all up when I get the time, currently at the vets

No where is that?

On the mobile app you click the three lines to the left of the Red Cafe header and less than halfway down there's a Transfer Tweets section

On the website there's a Transfer Tweets link at the top to the right of Home, Forums, Matchday

You can set the feed to show all, just United tweets, European, England &.Scotland etc

No where is that?
…& herein lies the issue. No one knows it exists.

So that thread should be pinned so people can see it clearly labelled TWEETS ONLY or something like that and we should be allowed to chat in the other one (ofc without it divulging into a complete nonsensical arguing mess as it has been lately)

Is there anyone else who thinks we should just ban tweets? And remove the new emojis?

I have added a link to the tweets feed to the new threadmark in the Man Utd tweets thread - which is now open for discussion again as well. See here: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/transfer-tweets-manchester-united-2024-25.482889/post-32300165.

It's important people really stick to the 'only initial discussion about tweets' bit though. We'll be very strict on that and will be issuing (temporary) thread bans easily. We don't want to go back to having pages of discussion all the time, as constantly was the case (despite numerous mod comments) before we started deleting all discussion.

I think we should only allow people to post Teletext screenshots.
