The build-up to this match was clear: It’s all about Thursday. The big question was whether Bayindir would prove himself worthy of starting that one as well. In my opinion, yes – I still want Bayindir in goal for that match. He had decent control and distributed the ball well up until the mistake. A mistake I choose to chalk up to rustiness.
Losing Zirkzee is a bigger blow than just dropping 1 or 3 points. Let’s hope he can be patched up by Thursday – the alternative doesn’t exactly give me goosebumps.
The upward form we’ve seen lately has included a full-strength team. We’re at least a preseason and a summer window away from being where Newcastle are now – a place where rotation here and there doesn’t disrupt the machine.
I’m both dreading and looking forward to Thursday. Is Zirkzee fit? Was this a clever move by the manager? Will Højlund start, or will we see an experiment like Mount up front?
I choose to focus on the positives we’ve seen in recent games, including this one (Zirkzee, Amass, Yoro, Mount is still standing).
Come on, folks – let’s get behind the lads now. We can see they’re giving it their all, even if not everyone has a future here!
