Poll?

Should caftards be allowed to make polls?

  • Yes, we need to know 15 times a week whether Ronaldo is better than Messi

    Votes: 15 24.2%
  • Possibly although it might make the forum more Messi

    Votes: 5 8.1%
  • But have you seen it when Smashed or Mehro try to make a poll

    Votes: 9 14.5%
  • Nah, on second thoughts we're too stupid to set up polls

    Votes: 6 9.7%
  • Eboue

    Votes: 27 43.5%

  • Total voters
    62
  • Poll closed .

No not graham!

Whats the situation with not being able to make polls on this board? They can be a good way to easily polarise people and aid discussion. Obviously there is a pretty good reason why they are disabled?

Always on my mind,

Because everyone will start making polls.

Hope this helps.

We can't be trusted, well, most of us.

so how do we go about getting a poll set up? I remember there was one about Sir Matt vs Sir Alex recently and it seemed popular

Maybe there should be something like 'Poll Of The Week' ?

it's the mods/admins who can make polls,

'poll of the week' is a good idea, perhaps we could all add some suggestions during the week and on the weekends, the best/most popular suggestion can be made a poll by one of the mods/admins who is feeling a bit helpful :D

A poll for what is to be polled?

a poll of the week thread could be a good idea, could be in either of the forums here

but if everybody had the ability to do a poll then we would get swamped by them
Not really. I use other forums where they let you make your own polls and tbh I very rarely see them.

Have you lot ever seen the likes of smashed and mehro trying to make a poll?

How is it different to being swamped by threads?

You'd assume it'd waste a bit of extra bandwidth to be honest.

It's not like we ever need them really, polls don't really help much. There'd end up being Messi-Ronaldo polls, Tevez-Berbatov etc. and just end up being a waste of time.

What's wrong with those polls?

The US Election thread ended up with lots of discussion and left-wing loonies strutting their stuff, and the poll was secondary.

It just encourages people to make their vote and just say 'I voted for ***' rather than making them contribute to the discussion.

Not true at all - the only poll I can remember was the Busby vs Fergie one and I would say having the poll actually encouraged people to post the view in detail (to try and sway new voters to their point of view) rather than just posting a couple of lines as is often the case

That's because that particular poll required some footballing knowledge and the people who were talking about it had to be old enough to remember Busby.

That wouldn't happen in a 'Who's better, Messi or Ronaldo?' poll.

On two other football forums I go on it doesn't work out well at all.

I guess it depends on the poll subject - as far as I am concerned a 'Messi v Ronaldo' poll is pointless in the first place and not really the type of issues I am interested in seeing the Cafs view upon.

There's no doubt a poll of that would be started, and I'd expect a fair few others that are similar like 'Best player of all time?' or 'Is Evra actually God?' would be made as well.

Just to be clear - I am not advocating a free for all with polls - I am talking about a 'Poll Of The Week' which would be sorted by a mod on worthy subjects

football polls would be very retarded, i've seen of opinions on here, and they really dont want to be documented on the top of a page.

polls for things like

Daddy or chips

would be much better,

although i imagine you cant restrict polls to certain boards

no polls, it would be abused

besides people will just vote eboue...

i know i did...

so i doube they would show anything... other than eboue is the answer and if eboue wasnt an option there would be page after page of replys on the thread saying

"eboue... hth"

or words to that effect...

how about the idea of 'Poll Of The Week'?
Topic to be chosen by an admin/mod with a thread of topical suggestions every week ?

or failing that can you mods/admins please just set up a few more polls every now and again - I think they are interesting and help to stimulate good discussions

We do set up polls every now and then. Thread of the week, etc are also done occasionally.

Fair enough - perhaps I have not been around long enough to see them

no point having polls just for the sake of it, but if people want a poll then suggest some decent ones

At the moment there seems to be 2 players that divide opinion on the Caf more than any others and threads about them keep coming up with the same arguments rehashed over and over: O'Shea and Tevez.
I think it would be interesting to see the consensus Caf opinion on these two players.

For O'Shea I would have a straight 2 option poll:
1. He is still a vital member of the squad and must stay.
2. Thanks for the memories but it's time to cash in while we still can.

For Tevez - multiple options:
1. Pay whatever it takes it keep him at OT.
2. Pay upto £25m.
3. Pay upto £20m.
4. Pay upto £15m.
5. Dont need him, let him go.

Hopefully, the threads attached to these polls would become the defintive threads for those players and avoid threads on the same player being made again and again.

Perhaps, Scholesgoals will come up with some ideas for non-footy polls?

I was more talking about the ability to come up with a poll should you wish to.

I dont have anything to poll at the moment, but i thought it would be good for a polar thread, especially in the current events forum.

I'm happy with Geeb's explanation though. ta.

On another forum I used to be on, every member was allowed to make a poll and it was quite effective in resolving disputes. Would work well on the cafe but I don't see the mods letting this happen.

Could I suggest a simple yet seasonal poll for the general.

Should sprouts be included in your christmas dinner, simple yes or no will suffice.

The issue of sprouts causes many a heated discussion in my parts.

This is a good suggestion for a non-footy poll

So there you go mods - you have a couple of United related suggestions and a seasonal suggestion for the General - please sort it out!
