I have always thought Robbie Keane is a good player and during his time with Leeds he started showing development instead of potentiality.

I read somewhere (maybe as a small quote in the official Manchester United mag) that Sir Alex once said he wouldn`t pay either 50,000 or 500,000 pounds for Robbie Keane. If that is true, I think Sir Alex`s ascerbic comments were wide of the mark.

Keane`s value is apparently 7 million pounds yet we bought Diego Forlan (untested in the hard competition of any major league) for that price. I know who I would prefer in the Manchester United team and it`s Baby Irish who played for Coventry, InterMilan and Leeds and garned so much more experience and skill than Forlan.

Can somebody enlighten me on whether Sir Alex actually made that comment? If so, I think a great opportunity has gone begging because of that. Even if Manchester United wanted Robbie Keane it would not happen as Sir Alex would not want to lose face. Did he really make that comment?

SAF said something to the effect of, "Id only pay 500k for Keane and then stick him in the Reserves" shortly before/after he joined Coventry for about 5m or so. Something like that anyway, it was a long time ago. But Robbie Keane would be a snip at about 10m in my book.

Thanks.

I can`t understand why Sir Alex had that snip at Robbie Keane. We could do with someone like him, especially as he is so enthusiastic and productive with it - and only 22 years old.

Fergie, Fergie til I die but the great man is not always correct.

Obviously someone asked him if he was worth x amount of money and he replied with his honest opinion. If he doesnt think hes needed, so be it. Hes a great talent though.

GG:

He made that comment when RK was 19 at Wolves, Fergie was asked about him and responded in a flippant way. Remember, at the time, we had Cole, Disco, Ole & Teddy so a sprightly 19 year old division 1 player, that was being bandied about for £6m, probably didn't leave much of an impression on Fergie.

Do you think Inter knew they would sell him to Leeds for less than they paid for him? Do you think Leeds knew they would sell him to Spurs for less than they paid for him?

Shouldn't a player of his age garner higher transfers rather than lower?

BTW, if Fergie went in for RK last January, when we got Diego, I guarantee the sheep would have wanted at least £15m for him.
