I was under the impression that Pro Evo 2008 and Winning Eleven 2008 were the same game, but I see some people on here talking about them like they are two different games. Which is it?

The reason I ask is that I haven't played either but I am looking to get one of Pro Evo 2008 (winning eleven, whatever the hell it's called) or FIFA 08 I just want to know which is better. The platform would be on the Wii . Anyone have opinions?

Winning Eleven is the Japanese version of the game I think. So Winning Eleven will come out before Pro Evo, but now the latest Winning Eleven is probably out in Japan and an upgrade on PES2008. I think that's what it is anyway

Anyway, only impotent people play FIFA

i have both and i think fifa is the better game.

Winning Eleven is just the name for Pro Evo in America and Japan, they are both the same game, well the american and english games are, sometimes the jap game is slightly different and released in june or something

As mentioned Winning Eleven is the North America and Japanese version of Pro Evolution. It is widely considered the better version due to its slower playing style and gameplay tweaks.

I have played all 3 games and I rated them like this

Pro evolution 2008 6.5/10
Fifa 08 7/10
Winning Eleven 2008 8/10

As you have probably heard pes 2008 suffers from slow downs where as winning eleven doesn’t, I have only played the demo as the full game will be released on the 22nd.
I found the gameplay a lot more fluid, the keepers are better and don’t seem to suffer from the Paul Robnison syndrome, also there is a new difficulty setting call super star!

EDIT: just saw you were talking about the Wii so not sure the above will apply as PES on the Wii will probably be a completely different game and am 99% sure it wont have the same problems the HD consoles have had, plus I think for the Wii version you will have to wait till next year for its release.

Winning Eleven 2008 is out in Hong Kong on PS3 already and I've heard that it runs much more smoothly than PES08.

useful info thanks Starman, i am getting my PS3 this weekend and i plan to buy one of the footie games available, i'll take your post into consideration!

Thanks, I'll probably wait for the North American Wii release of Winning Eleven. Anyone know when it comes out?
