Im after a new gaming console and noticed this has recently been released for around £299.

I have a PC, for downloading music etc and the main things I would want to do with a new console would be to play multiplayer games (at home and online) and use its HD capabilities.

Is 40GB enough, or once you get into online gaming do you need more?

Im a bit of a novice with all this next gen stuff - Im prepared to trade my PS2 in to help bring down the price, so if anyone knows any good deals please pm me

You'll get about £10 for your PS2

Best off keeping it, (the new PS3's don't play PS2 games)

Thanks for the quick replies

Pert, Ive got a slim PS2 with 5 games, 2 controllers, memory card and Multi tap - wont I get much for that?

Weaste, do you think this is my best option then? Over the xbox packages etc?

Also, does anyone know where the best place to get the 40GB PS3 from is?

I certainly want two controllers.

If you trade it in at a Game store, you will get peanuts

Sell it on eBay, you might make £50-60 if it is in good condition and the games are half decent

I got £67 for my PS2 + 15 games + memory card at Game, to be honest I saw nothing on ebey going for much more than I got at Game, maybe £10 more but that's all.

I would personally go for the 60GB package, it's far better value for the following reasons.

-With the 40GB you pay £299 and get Fifa 08 or Tiger Woods .
- At Blockbusters you pay £349 for the 60GB and get Fifa + 2 games (I got Heavenly sword and Warhawk) You can easily sell hem on ebay for £20 each (maybe more) so effectively your paying £309 for the 60GB + Fifa (that's only £10 more than you did for the 40GB!)

i got PS3 60gb with Heavenly Sword, F1 and Resistance from argos for £350, although i think that deal ran out today

That's not bad. I noticed in the supermarket on Saturday that they were selling a Sony Bravia 40" 1080p LCD TV with PS3, 2 games of your choice, 2 Blu-ray movies of your choice, and two controllers for €1800. At current conversion rates, that's about £1200. Great deal.

Are no electronics retailers in the UK doing this type of bundle?

gonna nip into town tomorrow and see whats what with the PS3 and ask in game about trading the PS2

which shops are worth looking in for the PS2 packages? (best value)
many online gamers on here? I want the new PES in a bundle!

go to Playstation Network and create a PSN ID, you can probably do it on playstation.com now actually

So let's say I have PES8... is it completely free to play online after setting up the account?

Dont told me you bent over and bought this watered-down PS3.

You do know that practically the rest of the world besides Europe have access to 60-80gb PS3s with backward compatibility, something the european versions dont have - even North Korea have them! Ontop of that we have to pay almost twice for what is essentially half of the console.

Ignore him Jacob, he is what Redlambs would refer to as a fanbitch.

The PS3 doesn't have backwards compatibility with PS2 games, loses 2 of it's 4 USB ports and does not have an ethernet port. That is the only difference between the 40GB and other models.

Won't need any of those. I'm just a simple player.

Fanbitch of what exactly ES? If anything your desperate defense of sony in all conversations suggests something else :p

The point im trying to make is Sony are charging Europeans more for less, and you lot are still buying in to it while they laugh all the way to the bank.

I wouldn't call it a 'desperate defence'. You just talked a load of bullshit in your post, half of which doesn't make sense.

And I agree with you completely about SCEE, I've said the same as you have just said many times before.

Try sticking to things where you know what you are talking about, as then you wouldn't make yourself look quite so dumb.

 all ive claimed is that Sony treats Europe like its arsehole...im hardly bullshitting.

Whats funny is this fanboy defense, I say anything negative about sony and suddenly "Im a 360 fanboy", "dont know what im talking about", and "should go back to playing mario"

All companies treat us like shit. Especially sony, they are evil.

Yes but at least they give you a product that lasts more than a week without malfunctioning.

OK, 2 weeks.

My 360 hasnt broken down yet, and besides Im not paying £40 for a controller that should of given with the console.

I dislike microsoft as much as sony, but at least their console offers some form of backwards compatibility and more than 40gb harddrive space.

I'll leave Weaste to this one, he'll do it better than me;)

I wish that you'd give it a fecking rest. But if you need to carry on, at least you can still buy a PS2.

Yeah cause charging 40£ for a controller that should have come with the console in the first place is so nice, what a wonderful company. Although admittedly it is just a little footnote. However it is an example of sonys wonderful actions.
Although microsoft is evil, too, nintendo is kinda evil too. Everybody is evil, live with it. Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

You get a controller with the PS3. WTF is wrong with you people? There is a feckbitch thread about the controller, why not use it instead of polluting this one, eh? I don't want a DS3, and will not be buying one. You have a ready supplied controller. If it floats your boat and you want a vibrating one, then 40 quid isn't exactly out of the gap when considering the rest of the fecking market. I'm sick to death of your type of verbal vermin and vomit of the scale of 20,000 babies stuck in a room at 40 degrees celcius for 36 hours with their nappies full of several shits with nobody to change them.

FFS!
