Very poor game AGAIN last night. 5

MU will never go far if they play like what they did in 2nd half.

MU will never go far if they play like what they did in 2nd half.[/QB][/QUOTE]

It happened because we had no one up front to hold the ball up.Ruud did it superbly in the first half. And although Phil Neville had a good game he obviously can not perform in that position anywhere near as good as Keano ( but then who can).
We are improving with every game..Looking good to me wIth Scholesy and Keano due to come back in .

Barthez 7 - did what he should
Blanc 7 - solid
Ferdinand 7.5 - our best defender yesterday, did not deserve the yellow IMO
Silvestre 6 - not one of his better matches
Oshea 6 - not one of his better matches
Butt 7 - a few bad passes, but still, as always, good
Veron 7.5 - some fantastic passes mixed with som very poor
Giggs 6.5 - very good in the first half but went missing in the second
Phil 7.5 - bloody hell, he's a good midfielder - reminds me of Butt a few years ago
Beckham 5 - was he on the pitch?
Ruud 9 - fantastic, best individual performance by an United player so far this season
Gary 6 - not in form obviously
Forlan 7 - did a very good job

At what? Running around?

He was poor last night - he's not suited to being a lone striker.

Just 2 extra comments on 2 specific players :

Beckham - I watched the full 2nd half ... and frankly speaking, even with my eyes half-closed I shouldn't have seen him only after 10-15min ... He has totally disappeared from the field till the last half and hour ...

Forlan - I can see he can run if given space ... but he need to be a bit more SOLID that's important !! ... don't just keep going down ... and don't get too worry abt cutting in and shoot ... He has at least 3 solo run IMO ... but none has produced a decent shot on target ... is it confidence thing or what ?

I think Forlan and Veron were having a competition to see who could give the ball away most often.

I thought the defence looked very solid in the first half with three of the back four out and out cantre-halfs, it gives Silvestre a lot more scope to get forward, as O'Shea can cover centre back while one of the centre backs can cover the left when Silvestre goes missing.

Barthez was back to his best last nighr, good to see. No chance with the goal.

O'Shea - hope his heads ok. was apparently seeing double vision after clashing heads with thick-headed Phil. was doing well again at RB.

Mickey - first time ive seen Mickey lose every arial ball to his opponent. had a quiet game.

Blanc - IMO was the pick of the defenders last night, even better than Rio. anticipated moves, carried the ball out well. Cool. good to see him have a word with Rio, after Rio's sillyness.

Rio- good game but damn lucky not to be sent off. On another day would have been. Petulent. Looked to be carrying an injury at one stage but ran it off.

P Neville - another superb performance in CM. won the ball all over the pitch, crucially winning it in the buildup to the 2nd goal.

Butt - good game. won the ball well & distributed it well. Made some intelligent runs across the pitch. Needs to watch that temper though as he was lucky not to get a 2nd yellow card.

Veron - superb pass for the first goal. good work in the 2nd working his way across the pitch. Nice touches throughout the first half. seems to be building an understanding with Ruud. Faded in the 2nd half & kept giving the ball away. was it a coincidence that Ruud was off the pitch?

Giggs - good in patches. worked hard. could have done with running with the ball a bit more.

Becks - very quiet. not one of his better games. Missed a sitter from Ruuds pass.

Ruud - worldclass. this is why we paid 20mill for him. Movement first class, finishing even better. All-round game definately developing.

Subs:
Forlan - Good pace but ran like a headless chicken at times. Unlucky not to get a penalty kick. Not suited to the lone striker role though, the ball came back too much from him.

Gary Neville - obviously still not match sharp. Used his experience well in certain occasions but caught out a wee bit by the goal, but then which fullback wouldnt have?

Bobo 6 - Sharp one minute, dropping the ball for no reason the next..typical

O'Shea 7 - Solid, especially if he did have double vision

Rio 7 - Excellent recovering tackle, stupid slap, bit shaky at times

Blanc 8 - Solid throughout, especially second half

Silvestre 6 - gave the ball away too often

Beckham 5 - Not his night

Butt 7 - Bit sloppy at times, defended well

Veron 7 - Good ball for goal, hardly saw him for most of the match tho

P Neville 8 - Worked his arse off

Giggs 6 - In and out of the game

RVN 9 - Excellent first half performance, constant threat

G Neville 6 - Bit off the pace

Forlan 5 - Made nothing of several decent openings..not a good player

Agree with most of it. But Barthez had a good game imo. I also think that O´Shea was very poor yesterday and rightly substituded at half time.

 O'Shea was having a good game! he only went off because he took a bang to the head and was seeing double!!

Barthez 7: great performance, though dropped the ball a couple of times
O'Shea 6.5: RB is definitely not his best position. Good in defence but never got forward to help the attack.
Blanc 7.5: Class performance
Rio 7: Foolish yellow card. Otherwise he was okay
Silverstre 6.5: Not one of his better matches
Beckham 6: Seems quiet and definitely not producing enough
Butt 7.5: Nice general performance. Very calm to pass the ball to ruud for the 2nd goal.
Veron 7.5: Good performance and contribution in the 1st half, thu faded out in 2nd half.
P.Neville 7: One of his best match I saw him in midfield.
Giggs 6.5: See traces of good performance but was not consistent at all.
Ruud 8: The old Ruud last season has come back!

G.Neville 6: poor and responsible for the goal conceded.
Forlan 6.5: not a striker by all means.

Barthez 7 - looked sharp, and was one of the main reason why we countered so well.
Blanc 8 - class.
Ferdinand 7 - made some great tackles, but should have made a challenge on basturk (?) which lead to their goal... his tackle in the second saved us.. still reckon he's rying too hard to impress, and shold keep it simple.
Silvestre 6 -
Oshea 6 -
Butt 6.5- played well.. altho one sloppy back pass nearly resulted in a Leverkisen goal..
Veron 8 - been top notch in Europe..
Giggs 6.5 -
Phil 7.5 - he's been excellent in last few games....
Beckham 5 - another poor match.
Ruud 10 - as good as i've seen him play for United... magnificent.((missed him in the second, which proves his first half display was awesome)
Gary 6 - not match fit.
Forlan 6 - didn't look happy as lone striker.

Good performance in the first half,RVN showed what he is made of,midfield were solid, the defence defended well as a unit. The two substitutions had a huge effect, disrupted the balance of the team. The midfield were overrun, the defence were forced to sit back as a result. The main problem was the incredible amount of stray passes from midfield(Veron and Butt in particular were guilty)It was quite shocking and a better team would have murdered us.Also Beckham did his invisible man routine-where the hell was he?It is hard to understand why we just collapsed in the second half, the opposition are a pretty poor team at the moment, that game should have been closed out a 2-0.There was a distinct lack of leadership and drive on the pitch, its about time some of the players stood up and forced the issue with some self belief. It was a great result under the circumstances, however the performance of the second half is a real worry

Barthez 7 - Better distribution than against Spurs, bad handling of the ball, but otherwise good
O'Shea 6.5 - He's a central defender, not a full back, but showed his defensive qualities still, good to know he can help out here if needed.
Blanc 8 - Best performance from him this season
Rio 7 - Not one of his best games, maybe trying too hard
Silvestre 6.5 - Didn't cost us a goal, but quiet going forwards and awful passing
Beckham 6 - He didn't look mentally right for this game, maybe too much revenge, and he's not got his passing accuracy going yet, hope he slips into gear soon.
Butt 6.5 - Failed to control the midfield and gave the ball away a lot, especially in the second half, wished we'd had Keano playing
Veron 7.5 - Some good passes, including an assist, a good game for him, though very sloppy in the second half.
P.Neville 8 - Really surprising us all by doing so well in CM, great effort too.
Giggs 7 - Nice through ball in that team goal, but not a lot else
Ruud 9 - Wouldn't bet against him being CL top scorer again, fantastic touch, movement, finishing, strength, and that turn!
G.Neville 6 - Being rushed back, it took Becks ages to play well after his injury, and Gary said after the Spurs game that he didn't play well and was very nervous, let him work his way back in the reserves.
Forlan 7 - Some good counter attacking breaks, but had no support at all, especially as Giggs was no longer playing up front. Should've had a penalty which he would have taken. Needs to be stronger though and more aggressive.
Ole - Not on long enough to say.

Forland did well last nite IMO, he tried and i repeat tried to run past defenders,i think he needs to be a bit stronger and take more chnaces and he will improve

got to say phil is our best man marker, he has kept players like zola quiet in the past.

yesterday he kept basturk quiet.

Yes, he's not suited to be a lone striker. Yet he kept running and running. Also after struggling the first 10-15 minutes he kept the ball well and made some fine passes. He did what we could ask from him.

Maybe we should've played 4-4-2 in the second but that would've meant playing Phil as RB and thus losing a defenisve midfielder.

Barthez- 8
Blanc- 7
Ferdinand - 7
Silvestre- 6
Oshea - 6
Butt- 8
Veron- 8 (9 in 1st half, 7 in second)
Giggs - 7
Phil- 7
Beckham - 6
Ruud - 9
Gary- 6
Forlan - 7 (not not exactly born to the lone striker role but did enough running)

:)

Why suprised? Most of the fans here are fair and reasonable. We are all United fans so obviously we support our players and hope our players perform well. No matter whether he is Veron, P.Neville, or anyone else, if he played well he deserves credit.

"Weaste" man of many tongues and infinate wisdom belives he is the sole defender of the very talented "JSV" that is the reason that he expressed his utter suprise at another fan actually acknowledging this talent
;)

i only listened to it but i thought becks had been subbed only to hear his name a few times with 15 or so mins left. 3 points.

Butty shut Djalminha out at Old Trafford last year. That was a great man marking performance. I don't think Phil could have done that.

Barthez - 7 - given their attacking, he didnt have much to do, but what he did, he did well
Silvestre - 6 - nuttin spesh
Rio - 8 - his best game for Man Utd so far. The tackle on Brdaric was the turning point of his match
Blanc - 7 - OK, looks better cos Rio did so well
O'Shea - 7 - looks a very promising right back, aswell as world class centre back
Veron - 7 - good cross for the goal, apart from that still tried to do overly difficult things when simple balls would suffice
Beckham - 6 - very average
Butt - 8 - his best match since the World Cup
P Neville - 8 - nice little performance, he's been a nice surprise this season
Giggs - 7 - made some good runs, but it isn't clicking for him at the moment
Ruud - 9 - best i've seen him for a long time. one of his best matches for the pride of all europe.

G Neville - 7 - given he just come back from injury, i thought he put in a great performance. was slightly to blame for the goal though :(
Forlan - 6 - looked promising, but kept playing as if he had a striker up there with him, and thus gave the ball away needlessly. He should have had a penalty when Ramelow fould him.

I agree wholeheartedly...the defence has looked much more stable whenever O-Shea has played this season..he was performing well agst top euro opposition .

It wasn't just Ruud who went off at half -time. The Defence suffered when O'Shea didn't come out for the second half, and Gazza needs a game or two to get match-fit.

Barthez has shown over the last couple of games that if he puts his mind to it, & quits clowning around, he is an excellent keeper, a feature which I feel he's not shown often enough in the past. ( It looks like his break from the First Team has given him the right impetus! )

His re-assured performances will have a positive knock-on effect on the confidence of the defence that there is a world class keeper behind them, which will allow them to play their more natural game, especially since the arrival of both Rio & O'Shea, which in turn will relieve a bit of the midfielders' defensive duties which will allow them to concentrate a little more in opening up attacking avenues for themselves & their strikers, especially when Ruud is slowly finding his feet ( literally as he's fallen less in the last couple of games ) & re-discovering his killer instinct in front of goal!

I.E. - the whole team's confidence & successes depend very much on an inspired & excellent keeper!

Can't believe you can call yourself a United supporter.Somebody ban him please

Red tribe (leader ???)who do you think you are to ask someone to ban me from expressing my sincere opinion ?

I am entitle to say what I think -whether you agree or not--who cares ?

FYI, I have been the MU supporter since many-many years ago.I reckon you are still in your mom stomach at that time.

Barthez 7 - good performance, dropped the ball once or twice but otherwise good.
O'Shea 7 - Strong performance, shame he didn't shout when he went up with Phil ;)
Blanc 8 - Looked the business
Ferdinand 7 - Shouldn't have slapped him, maybe at fault for goal, otherwise his usual commanding self
Silvestre 6 - Not at his best, gave the ball away too much
Beckham 6 - see above
Veron 7 - good distribution, dissapeared later on. Would have had a goal but for a blind linesman
Butt 8 - Mr reliable, good ball-winner, set up 2nd goal
P Nevile 7 - Performing better than expected in midfield, but Keano would have been preferable
Giggs 8 - Some good runs, but inconsistent.
Ruud 9 - Showed his class, running off the ball was excellent, made space for himself and others, took the 2 goals beautifully

Forlan 7 - Some good running, but not suited to the lone striker role.
G Neville 6 - On his way back to match fitness
Solskjaer - didn't have time to make an impression

In the past ? He had three difficult months last year, but he did show his qualities the first year and during the remaining of the second year. Not to mention Marseille, Monaco and the French team.

As for his break from the first team, it was because he was injured.

Ruud was magnificent, as perfect a display as I have ever seen. He held up play when required and showed great intelligence with his movement off the ball. Sorely missed in the second half though.

Can`t understand why Forlan gets chance after chance, he have to do better than this if he`s going to get a regular place in the start line up. He has some good runs but it`s not enough. It would be better to play Ole, At least he can do something with the ball and He`s not afraid of trying to hit the goal. I hope that Forlan don`t give in, but in CL we have to use the players that knows what it takes to play against such good teams that we meet in CL. Maybe Diego should be played carefully in the PL first, to get some confidence in his game.
