Veron 6
P Neville 6

A below average performance, I can only guess that we are really missing Keano. We are not playing as well as we know we can, which is really frustrating

Forlan - useless. ;)

Ruud seemed quite lively... took defenders on, some individual efforts, thought he was quite good.

Watching the strikers I suppose as Silvestre was there to attend for the winger.

Obviously he didn't do a very good job, Mikael.

Veron was fecking awesome today, man of the match easily.

BRING ON CITY!

Barthez: solid enough. 7
Silvestre: not his best game 6
Neville G: looked ok, was there. 7
Ferdinand: Pure class 8
Blanc: Pure arse 6
Beckham: another poor game, did little. 6
Giggs: Very quiet. 5
Neville P: another good game, in form. 7
Veron: Flashes of brilliance. 8
Scholes: resonably good game. 6
V Nistelrooy: tried hard 6

Forlan: made one contribution ;) 6
O'Shea: apparently came on. 5
Solskjaer: also apparently came on 4

I don't agree with SOCALRED's comment that we were below average -- we have struggled in nearly EVERY EPL matches this season, so that's already our average performance now.

I also don't understand why can people gave Gary and Rio a 6 and 7 respectively. IMO they were fantastic, already did everything they could as defenders and were great in coming forward.

My ratings:
Barthez 7.5: Very solid. Hope his injury wasn't serious.
Gary Neville 8: Solid. Run his heart out to help the atttack.
Rio 8: Class everywhere. Repel everything went his way and great coming forward.
Blanc 7: Slow, but his class in tackling and vision were still there.
Silverstre 6: should be responsible for the goal
Beckham 6.5: below average
Phil Neville 7.5: One of the best match I ever watch him played. Score a nice goal, ran tirelessly to link the midfield.
Veron 7.5: finally start to perform on the level that is expected on him. Now the only thing he need to do is keep up this performance in every match.
Giggs 7: Finally start to do some good run from the left again. but still losing the ball a bit too much.
Scholes 6.5: below average. definitely not a strker.
Ruud 6.5: He need more games to get sharp
Ole 6.5
Forlan 7.5

good game in general.. don't understand why i saw becks on the left a couple of times..

was becks mad that giggs took a quick free kick that eventually ended up becoming forlan's 25 yarder? i mean, clearly becks would have wanted to have a crack from that range that they got the free kick from..

i saw it on TV though.. so can anyone who were at the stadium confirm if that free kick was out of range and that becks didn't look disappointed he didn't have a crack...?

Notable players: Veron, Forlan, and Rio.. all the ones our beloved fans have been criticizing.. they have done us proud today so i hope even the "Valid Criticism" of these players end.

Who's been complaining about Rio? And who cares if Becks was disappointed or not about the free-kick? We scored from it so he must be delighted either way.

not complaining about him per say.. but the money that we spent on him.. a lot of people think the money could have been better spent elsewhere.. have i cleared that up enough?

and i'm not sure ( i need confirmation ) but becks didn't like it when veron used to ask for free kicks last season.. so i was wondering if becks was disappointed yesterday.. i think he also really badly needs a goal from a free kick to boost his own confidence..

i only see these incidents on TV so it's not always very clear how players react to certain situations.. anyone from the stadium would like to voice an opinion???

Saying people were disappointed at the sum of money spend on one player instead of three or four and saying people have criticized Rio himself is a different matter entirely, be more careful making comments like that. And if Beckham was a tad upset about not taking the freekick (which he shouldnt be because it won us the game) then boo-hoo, he should be pleased, and I'm sure he is. he is far too professional and cares too much about this club to be so childish.

i know that's the way things should be, but it's out of curiousity.. i'm still waiting for someone who went to the game to comment on this anyway.. not a big deal.. just never been to too many games and things that do not appear on TV leave many of fans like me curious..

I'm not going to give the players rating because i think it a little unfair to fully eveluate their performance unless you were actually at the game, which unfortunately i wasn't, so i've only seen the highlights on ITV.
A few points i did pick out was.
Mickey was poor, he couldn't get to grips with Fernades. he let him cut back in for the goal when he should have been trying to force him on to his right foot.
Thought Seba had a really good game, some beautiful passes. He seems to really have benefitted from a long run without Keane. Its allowing him to try and control the game.
Ruud worked really hard and on another day he would have had 2 or 3 goals to show for it.
Diego was excellent when he came on. He looked full of confidence and not afraid to shoot when given the chance.
Rio looked spot on. Used his pace when he had to and always looked calm.

It wasn't a great performance but it has been those types of games that we have been drawing.

I can't say that I blame him directly because Silvestre was marking Rio instead of Fernandes. My only problem with Rio and the goal stems from the fact he should of direct Silvestre to cover the open Fernandes. That's what I expect for 30 million. A defensive general. He did make good tackles, otherwise. But, his passing wasn't that great.

Bartez - 7
G Neville - 7.5 Hardest worker on the field by far
Ferdinand - 7 I still don't think he's worth 30 million
Blanc - 6.5 ferdinand can still learn from this old goat
Silvestre - 5.5 He has to mark better than this.
Beckham - 6 Not effective in the least, even when crossing.
P Neville - 6.5
Veron - 7.5 One of his best performances
Scholes -6
Giggs - 6
RVN - 6

OGS - 6
Forlan - 7

rio only 7?? he cleared up millions balls!!!!!

Silvestre is the WORST one out there ... I think he's probably the only one on and off the field there who didn't know Fernandez is predominantly left-footer even he play on the right wing... and both them French !?!?? ( even from the same French youth team I think )

And we are SO SO lucky that Beatie didn't scored with another sudden lose of concentration from Mickey again ... gosh ...

Think we better sign a cover soon ;)

He's had a few bad matches lately. I honestly think his unsettled contract situation is hurting his game. They need to sort that out one way or another. I still don't understand why United let it drag on so long. With everyone else, they re-signed players 2 years plus ahead of time (with the exception of Beckham which was a unique situation). Silvestre is actually entitled to start talking to other clubs as of January. Makes me wonder how committed we are to keeping him.

Fabrice Fernandez is not very known in France...I doubt he ever played for the French youth team, although I'm not sure about that.

Respect this great player. Don't know about yesterday, as I haven't seen the game, but he deserves other comments than "pure arse" ! Pure class suits more to him.

I watched his face react painfully after rush out to save a ball in the final quarter of the game. I don't know the extent of his injury, but remember his records of getting injured during a match in the past, I'm a bit worried about it. Hope his injury isn't serious this time.

I don't think it is serious as I haven't heard about it. Tomorrow he plays a friendly for France so we'll soon know if he's injured.

Only Barthez, Rio, Blanc, Veron, Phil & of course Forlan played decently.

Becks has caught Giggs' disease of being unable to beat the first defender with his crosses, Ruud should learn the off-side rule ( how many times was it last night? )

United's midfielders/striker should have more shooting practises; bar Forlan & Phil, the rest either couldn't shoot straight or had shots so weak, they couldn't get past the nearest defender!

The consolation was that United players grafted well & the team managed 3 points despite playing poorly & I'd rather they do that than see them play well & lose all 3 points!

At least other teams seeing them collect another 3 points despite their poor performance would dishearten the rest - a bit like frustratingly seeing Liverpool score 2 fluckies through Owen! ( did you see his 2nd against West Ham whereby his miskick rolled 15 yards into an empty goal yet managed to beat 2 defenders rushing back! )

We won the game which is what it is all about at the end of the day. But this was a game where Southampton had two absolute great chances to score, one in each half. No one has made much of the fact that had we lost this game, it would have been totally down to Fergie's persistence with this ineffective system. Fair enough this system "might" be effective in Europe against teams such as Real who have strong midfields and players capable of dictating the game, players like Figo, Zidane etc. But to use the premiership basically as a way of trying to implement this system is a very worrying tendancy, and to play one man up front at home to a team who if they finish mid table has done well is crazy. Too often it is not until the last 10 or 15 mins whenever he abandons the 4-5-1 system that we actually look dangerous, case in point Villa last week. I see some people are actually giving Giggs decent marks for yesterdays game, I assume you only saw the highlights, I watched the match live and he was terrible, but at the end of the day can we really blame him, he is not comfortable with the system, the same applies to Scholes. I know we have all criticised Forlan in recent weeks, myself included, but surely now he warrants a chance to partner RVN to see if they can gel together. I also note that some people are laying part of the blame for the Southamton goal at Rio, thats bullshit, he was top class yesterday, as was Blanc. The goal was Silvestre's fault. In recent weeks there has been too many goals coming from that side of the pitch, I seem to remember Leed's goal was also Silv's (though Chadwick helped also) fault, but some fans tried to direct blame at Rio again. To finish I thought Veron looked good yesterday, I think this may in part be because he was the main man in CM, no Butt or Keano, though I hope he can maintain this encouraging form when the aforementioned players return.

Though the bad thing is that, we have played poorly in nearly EVERY league games this season. We can't be lucky every time to score a goal in the final 5 or 10 minutes, so we must find a way to raise our game asap.
