Liverpool

Dudek - 6

Had little to do but I thought hee messed up on the 3rd.

Carragher - 5

Hasselbaink just brushed him aside for the 2nd and a poor day. Contributed to the 3rd.

Hyppia - 7

Liverpools' best player, came close with a header off the bar.

Henchoz - 6

Saw very little of him.

Gerard - 6

Nothing without Hammann to back him up - should have been sent off.

Biscan - 5

Terrible. Didn't string 2 passes together.

McAllister - 6

Did his best but Liverpool need a strong creative player with stamina. Tame penalty.

Heskey / Limanen - 4

Rubbish. Did nothing all day.

Chelsea

Cudicini - 9

MOM, brilliant. 6 or 7 good saves and kept the penalty out.

Gallas/Terry/Melchiot/Babayaro - 7

Melchiot gave a pnealty but good defending and went forward well.

Le Saux - 8

Scored and played well on the left carving out opportunities.

Dalla Bona - 8

Well supported and scored a goal.

Stanic - 7

Good tracking back but struggled to make this happen.

Hasselbaink - 8

Scored and made one - good play.

Gudjohnsen - 8

Scored and made one - good play. :p

Lampard - 7

Played well but should have scored twice.

Suprise, Suprise, Thompson :

"Our lads have shown tremendous effort and done great on a long run," he said. "Today it all went wrong together, so let's hope that if we can take anything from it, it was that we have gotten them mistakes all out of the way. We have got a lot of character in our team and have shown it.

"We have done exceptionally well and we now have to show a little bit of steel and even more commitment and play for Liverpool Football Club and I am quite sure they will be back."

Thompson also felt despite the absence of England striker Michael Owen, who was rested as a precautionary measure because of a hamstring worry, Liverpool created enough chances to have taken something out of the match.

He added: "Michael is a very good player and you need him, he has been hot - but with the other players we created enough chances today and Cudicini played very well.

Thompson: Defiant

"

But Thompson was unhappy at his player's sloppy defending. "It was bad defending for a lot of the goals which is disappointing because Jerzy Dudek has made a couple of good saves and they have put it in the back of the net."

Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini picked up the man of the match award after his second penalty save in a week crowned a terrific individual performance.

"I'm very, very happy to save two penalties," said the Italian. "You like facing penalties when you save them - but unfortunately it doesn't happen all the time."

Cudicini dived to his left to deny McAllister throwing Liverpool a lifeline with the score 2-0 to the home side.

The keeper added on Sky Sports: "At 2-0 if they get a goal back maybe the game could be a little difficult for us."

The victory follows recent good displays at Leeds and Manchester United - but the team have struggled to see off inferior sides. Asked for an explanation, Cudicini added: "I don't know why this is. It's very difficult to say.

"I think we are very determined when we play the big teams and fight with our hearts - and have lot of fight in us as well."

eh?

How was Dudek at fault for the third??

And why should Gerrard have walked?

and what about Riise?

You're a funny little man.....

OK, maybe it was Carragher who was at fault for the 3rd - how that went in is absurd.

Gerard was a mad man all game and was too dangerous.

Riise played well - a 7 - for getting a penalty and getting involved later on...

Why do you care? You support United. ;)

Only read our players' ratings but yeah I tend to agree with the majority of them...

Don't think Jari deserved a 5...was given little ball, but then he certainly didn't play well...

Besides Davo can't know anything about the game as he was stuck in his armchair watching highlights of United Vs. Derby. ;)

Litmanen is deployed to drift from midfeild and mix it around, like Paul Scholes, but today he did nothing.

In fairness he saw little chances and improved later but it shows Liverpool have striker problems.
