Reading go 1-0 up.
Our youngsters are not looking that good tbh.
This is mostly the same players that won the U23 Championship last season. The lack of a proper manager is the real problem.
Not even close. Januzaj, Perieira, Will keane, Wilson, Pearson, Rothwell, Riley, Weir, CBJ and others I cant remember all played for these at some point last season.
Hugely different squad this time around and nowhere near as talented.
Januzaj, Keane, Wilson, Pearson and Rothwell was involved in small parts of the season, but spent most of the season either on loan or injured.
Riley was adjusting to his new position, while CBJ and Pereira was involved with the first team most of the season. So the only mainstay is James Weir. Although a good player, I have a hard time believing that he was the linchpin that kept the team together.
They don't need to be mainstays to make an impact. Powell only played like 4 games but he also scored about 4 goals. Goals that haven't been replaced. So even in 4 games Powell made a big difference winning is matches that we aren't winning this season. Jeans scored 10 goals in 8 games and that is what twice as much as our top scorer? Weir was fantastic last season too, often our best player.Januzaj, Keane, Wilson, Pearson and Rothwell was involved in small parts of the season, but spent most of the season either on loan or injured.

None did play all season but a number of them where all playing together at various times which made a big step up in quality compared to thus lot. Also I forgot TFM.

So even if they didn't play every game, the games they did play they were game winners. There is no one in the current squad capable of changing a game other than harrop and some of the new promotions who are still adjusting to the level though.
What spine? If you look at the 11 most played players in each season only 4 are the same. Riley is gone on loan now so only harrop, Redmond and willock left. So the spine isn't really there and we also don't have the bigger talents even playing bit part roles. My point is that the "spine" of the team is playing this year , with the exception of TFM
Fair enough
I do think Warren was underrated on here though, and I can't imagine he would allow the "whatever"-attitude some of the players have displayed this season.
Would like to see the older U18's like Hamilton, Boonen, Buffonge and Bohui being given starts as some of the current players are finished at the club and probably know their contracts will not be renewed.
Even O'Conner and Gomes despite their tender years should be playing as they have the quality to step up although they will struggle with the physicality initially.
TFM should play the rest of the season as he is not getting any first team game time and the team must avoid relegation.
Also bring back CBJ ffs as he is playing for Wolves U23's instead of ours.
At least 8-9 of the current U18s will step up to the U23s next season (with the likes Gomes and O'Connor surely will be promoted ahead of time) I can't image many of the older U23s being retained, if any.
Mitchell, Tuanzabe, Henderson, Williams, Gribbin and perhaps Poole should be kept for next season.
Henderson,
O'Conner, Tuanzabe, Williams, Mitchell,
Whelan, Hamilton,
Gribbin, Gomes, Buffonge,
Bohui.
It is a very young team and we could maybe retain Willock and Harrop for experience to help the younger players.
The change in age group hasn't change do anything. The teams are still as experienced and developed as they were when it was called u21. The league isn't just packed with experienced 22 and 23 year olds all of a sudden. All teams are still loaded with the usual teenagers. They are now playing U-23s, no longer U-21s. Playing against more experienced, physically developed players than previously. This U-23 squad is a lot smaller than last years' too. Next season should see 14 × 18-year old players in the U-23s including 7 attackers (#7,#9,#10 or #11). So they should be more of a goal threat.
