Warren Joyce's side picked up a second win in the new division with a 3-2 triumph over Derby County at Old Trafford last week, with Scott McTominay scoring twice and Josh Harrop converting a penalty.

Ro-Shaun Williams came back to the side as a substitute and is another option at the back while Matthew Olosunde also made an impact off the bench.

The Toffees went top of the table after a 5-0 triumph at Arsenal last time out, only to be overtaken by Southampton on Friday with United currently sitting in eighth place.

"The victory over Derby County was one I felt we deserved in the end," said Joyce to MUTV. "We worked hard in training to come up with ways of creating things without having any forwards – including getting down the flanks and having runners in the box.

"We were looking to rotate people around and to be clever with our runs – as Scott McTominay was on Monday night – it was really pleasing he scored twice and could have even had a few more.

"The last few games have provided different tests. We closed down a very good Villarreal side fantastically well and worked hard against Manchester City whereas, in front of the fans at Old Trafford, you want to give the young kids with their parents a good account of how we want to play.

"We showed them we can pass the ball as well and we came up with different ways of cutting through their defence so that was very satisfying."

I thought this new league was for under 23's, all the teams on the table say under 21.

Reserves: #MUFC v Everton (A) - S Johnstone, Williams, Tuanzebe, Poole, Riley, Scott, Redmond, El Fitouri, Harrop, Hamilton, Willock
Substitutes - Moutha-Sebtaoui, O'Connor, Olosunde, Kehinde, Mitchell.

Williams back starting but Sadiq keeps his spot. Demi in for him and its a much better side. O'Connor back on the bench.

feel sorry for Harrop in this team...

If fitness is actually the issue preventing Mitchell from starting matches then the club/he needs to do everything to improve that because he should really walk into this team right now.

It's funny about Mitchell because when he came on tonight it struck me just from the tv screen that he looked taller and broader than he had done even recently. Haven't a clue but maybe they're having to be careful with him while he grows??

Also poor Sadiq doesn't get much love on here. You at least have to acknowledge the improvement he's shown since he first played. He's done alright at right back recently I thought.

Tuanzebe is something else though. Didn't think we deserved to lose 2 nil there except for the terrible defensive errors.

It was a strong Everton side.

Holgate and Niasse are first team players. Calvert-Lewin and Kenny have decent EFL experience and Davies is breaking through under Koeman this season.

Agree with what you said about Sadiq and Axel and the match in general. Sadiq has looked a lot better of late so definitely credit where credit's due, one of the least of the side's peoblems. You may have a point about Mitchell, it hadn't crossed my mind as an issue but you're right he is definitely taller but he still looks almost as skinny as he was a few years back when he was several inches shorter, maybe that's what's going on.

That attack could definitely do with him full-time alright. At one stage in the u18s he'd had a spell as a striker through the middle and was scoring regularly wasn't he? Just before he got injured? Ideal scenario if he could replicate that.

Just woke up is the match worth recording?

edit: meh...

Yeah he was, looked set up to have a really great season as well. He's definitely capable, even tonight you can see his quality, in the crispness of his passing and his invention and you always feel when he comes on that if he'd started the match then the team would have done better/won the match so hopefully he will start doing so before too long.

Sadiq was alright today. You can't expect him to bring any X-factor but he ran a lot and keep the ball well. Shame that Osolunde was ill before the ball, would have offered more threat down the right.

Unsworth will be moving soon. Got these boys consistently doing well.

Fine, but what is the point in him being at the club? Nothing against him, but he will very clearly never be good enough for United, and he's not even that young.

There isn't anything wrong with him being at the club. The u23s need to work with a mismatched small squad so having Sadiq there to rely on isn't a problem. The problem for me begins when he is playing the full 90 every match, especially as a winger when Demi, Kehinde, and Olosunde are all sitting on the bench. Olosunde also plays RB, Sadiq really better than him? I don't think so. Then you get him playing in CM for the last 20 minutes of a match. Wtf is he doing in there?

You can't expect Sadiq to bring any X-factor but then you can't expect it from Redmond or Scott in CM either. Not from Williams at RB because he is actually a CB. Hamilton is new to the level so can't expect him to be consistent and Willock is out of position so can't expect him to be consistent either. By now you can't expect some X-factor from anyone bar Harrop, Riley, and our CBs. Hardly going to get good performances like that.
