It's a bit of an indie site to be honest and I don't like Mastodon making the list ahead of Neurosis or Isis (although the top 20 hasn't been made yet.)

Saw them playing live in Belfast a few years ago, it was Paddys day and every fecker in the bar (band included) was pissed. And it was an early gig. Started about 7. Lethal night :D

Really, better than Discovery and Ágætis Byrjun? Animal Collective are more overrated than I thought. I just don't get what all the fuss is about, just another twee Indie record for me.
 
Good to see Wilco get in. The critics love YHF, I'm not sure it's their best album.

You have to work very hard indeed to sound this casual. "Ignition (Remix)" is a lazy, buzzed collage of a night on the town put together with a craftsman's eye. The same trick-- making meticulous detail sound almost improvised-- is what made "Trapped in the Closet" so shockingly successful and replayable. Here R. Kelly isn't telling a story so much as throwing out images, but the template is similar: a chassis of easy-rolling steppers' music that can respond to the slightest change in the singer's mood.

Not a phrase is wasted: When the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle started a message board thread on 100 reasons for this song's greatness, every single fraction of "Ignition (Remix)" got its own nomination (and the list went well beyond 100). Personal favorites-- the cork-and-glasses onomatopoeia of "Cris-tal poppin'"; the five table-rapping beats that summon the chorus; and, inevitably, "bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce." Every decade brings us songs whose purpose is simply to bottle the feeling of the best night out it's possible to enjoy. Call it a service to history: if, as seems likely, future generations judge the 00s as an era of bubble-fuelled idiocy, we will at least be able to point to "Ignition (Remix)" and say, "Yes, but just hear how great it felt." --Tom Ewing

I've just started playing that Animal Collective record again to see if it sounds any better now that it's got a Pitchfork top 20 listing to add to its aura. It doesn't. I really don't like this band. All the atmospheric soundscapes are probably very cleverly arranged and take considerable musical prowess to compose but it just doesn't for me. I also generally don't like any band that's liable to be described as being 'great when you're stoned'.

Yes. In fact AC is pretty much the only indie band that doesn't bore me these days.
 
Camera Obscura's 'My Maudlin Career' not being there is a travesty.
 
Most likely the bloke who wrote the review thought it was worth an 8.3 but the collective consensus was less enthusiastic when the list was being made

Which is strange because it's an absolute blockbuster of an album

Shite, that was a pretty shocking effort even from Pitchfork. My favorites from their list would be The Letting Go and I Am A Bird Now. I would probably keep less than ten of their picks.
