Pirlo would consider a move to Chelsea
Andrea Pirlo has become the latest AC Milan player to offer himself to Chelsea as Stamford Bridge looks in danger of turning into Little Italy. Milan defensive midfielder Gennaro Gattuso hinted he was interested in a move to Stamford Bridge and now playmaker Pirlo, 30, has followed suit.Pirlo, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, has been at Milan since 2001 and worked under manager Carlo Ancelotti for six years, winning two Champions League trophies and finishing runner-up once.
But now that Ancelotti has moved to London to take over at Chelsea it seems his former players are falling over themselves to join him.
Pirlo is currently playing in the Confederations Cup for Italy in South Africa but says he is tempted by a move to west London.
He said: "I will think about my future at the end of the tournament. I don't know if I'll continue with Milan.
"Perhaps it's possible that I could join Ancelotti in London. He is a great coach and perhaps I could play with him again. I've been at Milan a long time and maybe it's time for a new chapter in my career."
The big decision for Ancelotti is whether Pirlo would strengthen his squad because midfield is not Chelsea's problem position.
They already have Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, Michael Ballack and John Mikel Obi challenging for places in that area of the pitch, not to mention out of favour Portuguese star Deco.
But the Italian is keen to have someone on board who has worked with him before and understands his football philosophy. And both Pirlo and Gattuso fits the bill.
