This could be good news for us, although more likely now for liverpool....

According to Sky Sports, Pires is out for the season and will miss the world cup. having surgery this week.

I don't see this as good news at all. a good player that is now likely to miss the WC as well. I feel bad for him. I have no love for the Arse but this is still bad news.

this is shattering news...the world cup stage was beckoning for the lad...decent bloke he is too...scared the shit out of jedi master this season, quite simply marvellous....real shame, but perhaps this is the glimmer of hope the force now needs, as cruel as it maybe!

Sorry for Pires but it can't hurt our chances of beating the Gonners and taking the PL again.

Then again Poo might win it by packing their defense game after game. Heskeys arse wedged in their own goal should do it.

Pires' injury is going to benefit the Scousers more than us.

We have lost considerable ground already, and I was hoping the second best scenario would be for the Arses to win the league, not the Scousers. :(

Sorry, mr bleeding heart :)

Much though i'd like to whip arsenal and liverpool with all their players playing to the best of their ability... if it takes a career-ending injury for any number of them, for us to win the premiership again... well, of course I wouldn't mind.

Mancred you prick.

It's never 'good' when another player gets injured- no matter who he plays for. Any real football fan would appreciate that.

thats a twat of a statement - and your a wanker for typing it!!

Your desire for success should not include 'career-ending injury's' for anyone!

Pires is a class player - and I wish him a speedy recovery!!!

Pires being out for the season might be beneficial to us - but he's going to miss the World Cup, and that's a shame.

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" /> Wonder why he never became a goalkeeper though? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Yes, it is "good". It's absolutely fecking great when another player gets injured, if it allows united to win. It's absolutely brilliant when players like Shearer and Paul Ince get injured. The more pain, the better.

And boo-hoo for Pires, he'll have to play his play station all day and pick up 40k a week while he's doing it. My heart bleeds for the lad.

Were you really pleased when David Buust (or whatever his name was) snapped his leg in two at Old Trafford then?

what a daft question. busst's injury had absolutely no implications for united. it was sad and horrific for him (i was about 10 yards away from it, too, so i know of what i speak).

and as a fellow human being, i feel sorry for pires (inasmuch as one can feel sorry for a millionaire footballer sitting on the sidelines for a few months). but given that pires's excellent form for arse is one of many obstacles to united winning the premiership... i'm glad that he will now not be playing for arsenal for the rest of the season.

were arsenal fans sorry that keane was injured for much of the season when they won the championship? i don't think so. are teams coming to play united at old trafford glad when the find out giggs is injured? i think so. are they glad when they hear that veron will be playing in roy keane's position, because the latter is injured? i think so.

So the only reason you weren't pleased about Busst's injury was that Coventry weren't a threat to Utd's title aspirations.
The other players you mentioned (Shearer and Ince) aren't likely to pip Utd to the championship either.
It's all very well you saying a rival player's injury can be a good thing. . But you used the phrase, "the more pain, the better."
You might as well hope all the Arsenal and Liverpool players are wiped out in plane crash.

oh dear...

prime example of the new politically correct post-1991 football fan.

mate, chill out. i'm delighted one of the best players on the team of our biggest rival for the championship is injured. it might help us win.

is it that hard to figure this one out?

Oh dear...

Prime example of someone who doesn't know what he's trying to say and resorts to throwing out a lame, unsubstantiated insult along the lines of "I've been a football fan longer than you."

Your first post went on about you were glad when players from rival teams were injured and "the more pain, the better."
Then you changed your mind and as a "human being" you felt sorry for Pires.

I just questioned what you meant, but considering you don't seem to know yourself, I won't expect to be enlightened any time soon.

In fairness, it seems as though mancred would be best pleased if Liverpool and Arsenal were so crocked with injuries they couldn't mount any bid for the title - something like the Scotish league...

FFS - if we don't have good competition then how are we supposed to get better? Maybe he'd prefer if we moved to the conference and won every year without any challenge...

Winning is empty if you don't have competition, so credit to Poo and Arse, and bags of sympathy to Pires on missing the WC for France as he's probably in the peak of his career - I don't wish that on anyone.

How'd you feel for Becks if the same happened to him now?

I support United - but I'm a football fan before even that - and Pires is a great footballer who's been dealt the worst blow imaginable, to wish fir that is immature and sad, mate.

took you two efforts to get it out, but well said,
charlie.

i didn't change my mind. i wouldn't wish an injury of any kind on anyone -- unless it helped us get out of a tight spot and win the league again.

as for ince and shearer. would love to see a fifty-fifty between the two of them with the crushing of shins and knee caps rendering both of them incapable of ever stepping foot on a pitch again.

before you get on your high horse again -- maybe telling me i'm a sadist, or something -- charlie... go get a humour transfusion. you need it.

here's to a bout of ebola ripping through anfield and highbury...

oh, and by the way, i should explain for you about "the more pain the better" with regards to Shearer and Ince.

Ince used to play for united (it was a few years ago -- you'll find his pictures in some almanac or something from the megastore). Shearer turned us down, twice, and claims to hate united supporters.
United fans, consequently, have a degree of antipathy for both players (among many others).

Got it? Good.

I wish no ill on anyone, but I think everyone has overreacted to mancred's statements. He may have stated his opinions badly ("the more pain the better"), but the ideas are solid. If Man Utd win the Premiership this year, or even if Liverpool pip it, then they will owe some debt to Pires' dodgy knee. And if it is the scousers, then they'll owe something to Keano's dodgy knee too.
