Pillars of the Earth

Ooh, thanks Livvie. Was not aware this was in the works.

Good to see it's going to be a miniseries as well. Definitely going to have to get a hold of this whenever it comes out.

I really enjoyed the book. Mind, lots of movies and TV versions lose something in the transitions. Hopefully this won't be the case.

Yeah, but a lot of them cut stuff due to time constraints, but hopefully the miniseries format (8 episodes) will make it so that they don't have to cut so much.

If this is successful, maybe we'll see one for World Without End.

The cast does look pretty good, Hayley Atwell does sort of fit how i imagined Aliena when i read the book as i recall. And after The Duchess and Brideshead Revisited to name but two recent film appearances her pedigree is hardly in doubt.

Matthew Macfadyen as Prior Philip is the one i'm nto quite so sure about but we shall see i guess.

Finally something to look forward to as goes TV.

It's not my favourite book although if it were i'd be wary of the treatment it would get when adapted for the screen. However i do very much like the book and if it had to be anything better a TV series than it compressed into at most two and a bit hours.

And this is a genre we here in Britain do excel at so we can be optimistic in that sense.

Definitely looks younger than I pictured Prior Philip but I keep forgetting that he was somewhat young at the beginning of the novel. I always pictured him with a beard though.

Just finished this. Fairly well done, but I'm a bit disappointed with the plot changes due to time constraints (most notably the Thomas Becket stuff). Maybe with 10-12 episodes they could've included a few more important details that would have allowed them to match the way the book was arranged. I quite like the way the original was framed between the war and the Becket controversy but I think the writers did a good job of stretching out the war to span the entire movie and weaving it in with the events of the main plot.

The acting was quite good as well, McShane especially.

Can't wait for it to start here.
