Just announced.

Okay, suggestions? Bell in and nudge Bopara down a place? Or there is Morgan but he's only played ODI prior to now.

With the way he struggled at Lord's it's not insurmountable.

Could also play Prior as a dedicated batsman and bring Foster in.

Suspect Bell will come in now which doesn't fill me with great confidence.

It will be Bell, can't see England taking any risks and Bell will be considered the safe option.

Luring Trescothick back as a one off is a popular one on talksport since the news broke.

feck, that's a massive blow, however Nick tries to underplay it

There's bags of time left to panic in if necessary. :) The second and third days at Edgbaston if it all goes tits up for instance.

Could be a blessing in disguise for Bopara and in turn England this though, if he's at 4 he might not feel so nervous and by the time he walks out his um...cavalier approach won't be so much of an issue.

Thats a massive blow to us ,but I suspected has much when I saw him try to run in the second test.
If Flintoff can stay fit enought to play then we will be OK ,but I suspect that Flintoff will be a doubt too for the 3rd test ,maybe OK for the rest.

Huge blow as you've all said, and really Ian Bell is the only genuine option open to us as far as I can see. This certainly puts a lot of pressure on the the top order to get among the runs, because we've always had Pietersen to get us out of the mire when we're in trouble.

Not good, you can always sense there's runs in Pieterson

Rob Key is worth a shout for me, quite solid

Yeah, decent shout. Obviously he's had previous chances at Test level and was found wanting, but with the experience he's built up over the last few years, maybe he'd be more relaxed if given another opportunity.

I think Bopara will come good and he doesn't deserve to be dropped after literally 2 poor games. Key has also had good opportunities in the past and has been very disappointing, whereas Bell's record has generally been decent at Test level.

Very possibly but do we want to wait out the Ashes while he gets there? He doesn't look comfortable at No 3 so this injury to KP could work out in his favour.

I'm sure they will pick Bell, next Test is on his home ground.

BUT . . . Given the number of chances over the years that they gave to Mark Ramprakash, I think its time to give Rob Key another chance.

I still remember the magnificent 221 he made against West Indies at Lord's in 2004.

In great form at the moment, recently scored 270 not out.

Maybe he'll get his chance if Bopara doesn't start performing.

Bloody hell this is no good.

Hopefully Flintoff can stay fit for the rest of the series! There's really no point in playing sides when they're not at full strength.

Was Key that fat fella?

If so, bring him back!
