In recent years England sides that have had success in major competitions have adopted a country song beforehand.

These being Ring of Fire and The Gambler.

What would your recs be for the football team ahead of next summer?

The thing is you don't want an opera, you want something that can be sung on the streets and the stands.

But considering the group we've got this could be appropriate?

We haven't had a good England song in ages. I remember when Embrace did the World Cup song...I mean fecking hell, Embrace?

Bruce Springsteen's - The Wrestler.

I've no idea why.

What is the official England World Cup song this time around, by the way?

We probably won't find out until the Spring, as long as Ashley Cole doesn't ask his wife we should be fine.

If we are going to go down that route, lets have 'Zadok the Priest', the coronation anthem, popularised by the Champions League theme.

I have no idea, but I find his stereotypical mocking of Italians to be rather funny. And I like his hat.

They should record it with Capello singing the lyrics. I reckon he'd be well up for that.

Of sixteen replies, only two seem to reflect the question. lol

And this isn't for us supporters but rather the players themselves, for you see during the Ashes Freddie would play Ring of Fire, and i the cae of rugby it was The Gambler.

The thing is though we don't really do country songs- the Americans do, we wouldn't sing a Bavarian folk song before playing the Germans would we?

Not a fan of the English folk/roots music scene? :)

I take your point in that the US weren't in the Ashes for instance, but Ring of Fire or the like is hardly nationalistic. More a thing of the listener being motivated i suppose.

Probably what most will be doing after an inevitable penalty miss.

I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel
try to focus on the pain, the only thing that's real.
What have I become?

O.K so it wasn't strictly 'country' but Cash made it so.
