Phil Jones, Danny Welbeck, David de Gea and Tom Cleverley set for new contracts

I know it's old, but we need to die DDG down on a long term contract soon.

de gea deserves to be one of the highest earner, the way he has been performing for us the last 2 seasons or so. how many years left in his current contract? 2 or 3 years? we need to give him a 10 year contract.

i hope jones can be our new vidic. just need to sort out his senseless aggressiveness going into unnecessary challenges. he might be brave and hard but he is not made of steel so..

welbeck and cleverley, yeah academy product, homegrown, english, good squad players. okay.

This sums it up for me!

Old article, but even back then we shouldn't of been looking at giving Cleverley any thing more than his P45.

none of them has done anything to deserve an extension or payrise. They need to perform like DDG did in the just ended season.

We can not afford losing him, even if it takes human sacrifice to keep him happy at OT.
Man Utd was here long before David De Gea. If playing for the biggest club in the world isn't enough of an incentive to some then bye bye.. Man Utd will keep on moving.

P45? He's not playing for an Irish team.. Most people on here dont know what you're even talking about. I hope LVG instills some confidence in him and he realises his potential.

What nonsense is this?

A P45 is the form you get from every UK employer when you stop working for them, EVERY adult in the UK knows what a P45 is.

Got any more rubbish for us today?

Thought P45 was an Irish thing

That goes for every player who has ever played for us. That does not mean we should not do everything in our power to try and keep him here. Esp seeing that there are not too many keepers of his quality available, and that too at his age. Seeing that we have so many areas to improve in, we should not burden ourselves with the search of another position where we are well set in.

This high horse thing about us being Man Utd and every player should consider themselves lucky to represent us is silly. DDG is a Spaniard and if the big 2 come calling and we act as if we don't give a feck, we will lose him for peanuts.

Can only be a good thing if true imo. when you look at the chances we gave Ando i think Cleverley should be allowed another year under LVG. Let's see if he can get him fulfilling his early promise.

Hate saying it about a home grown player but I don't think Cleverley is suddenly going to become the answer to our prayers for a top CM under Van Gaal.

This is good for the club to finalise. DDG has been consistent between the sticks and will only get better. Danny has shown great strides this season so getting him to sign as well can only be good for us. It would be great if he could carry on his form and become even better. I love Jones here as well. He's your typical no-nonsense defender who reads the game well and isn't afraid to put hmself in dangerous spots. And the faces he pulls are a photoshoppers nirvana. Plus he's got literally centuries of experience, having been in the professional game for 215 years. I'm not sure about Cleverley. I don't see any real signs that he's getting any better and yes, we've given Anderson plenty of opportunities but we still loaned him out after getting little in return for our faith in him.

If we get what most of the Caf seemingly want, namely two new (central) midfielders, we're looking at: New Man 1, New Man 2, Carrick, Fletcher, Fellaini, Cleverley and Ando. Plus, Van Gaal may be keen on giving one of the youngsters a few opportunities. Even if we go 4-3-3 under LVG we may have too much quantity here. It's not inconceivable that one (or more) out of Mata, Kagawa and even Rooney may feature in that "3" as well - so, yeah, I should think something has to give.

Loan for Ando if at all possible. Fletcher possibly gone? Not sure what VG thinks regarding him. The much loved Fellaini will in all likelihood stay, whether the Caf likes it or not. Shock departure for Carrick? I don't think so - but you never know. And then there's Cleverley. I say sell him if we get a good offer - if not I don't see the harm in keeping him for another season. He might pick up a trick or two from LVG - not to mention that he'd probably do better in a 4-3-3.

And we may not get two new CMs either. One is pretty much nailed on - but it might be LVG thinks one is sufficient.

I live in the US, have never heard of the term P45 and I still understood from the context.
Sometimes the pedantic bs on really annoys me

He's not, but he's one of several players I was hoping last summer could really benefit from a new coaching team and new approach. Well, that didn't turn out so well but I'm still hoping a good manager can get something good out of him.

I think everyone should be given a fresh start, seeing as we're getting a new manager in. Welbeck, Jones and De Gea are certs to be rewarded new contracts, because I doubt the club would want to lose neither of them, however, I reckon Cleverley, who hasn't had the best of seasons for us, could really be a useful squad player, and could strive under the quick, one touch football under Van Gaal, where there's always a number of options within close proximity.

and you a comedian then? very poor one though. like i said get the best of out of him, like he played under fergie as he was a decent squad player.

Aren't insults condemned in this forum.

Cleverley has proved that he is not United material. He would be better off elsewhere same as Phil Nev and Gibson

I reckon LVG will get the best out of Cleverley.

I like the optimism but even at his best is he that good!? I'd say he is borderline average at best. So if we are keeping him as a squad player I would rather give youth a chance.
We have without doubt the worst midfield of the biggest clubs in Europe, it is quite honestly an embarrassment. Our best player in midfield is Carrick and I would only keep him out of the current first squad and only then as a back up player.
If Van Gaal has any thoughts of landing major honors next season I think he will feel the same unless it is a myth and we actually haven't got a pot to piss in so has to make do with the crap he is inheriting.
