I've got Joy Division oven gloves
By AF this year.

Not replacing McLaren.

Buying Veron for alot of money (when the defence was the weak point)

Selling Stam (when the defence was the weak point)

Messing around with the formation in league games this season (fair play its done OK in Europe).

Selling Cole when Yorke was clearly not going to play for you again, leaving you a bit light in terms of premiership quality forwards.

The rotation in home games hasnt always worked.

Do you accept these as errors?

Do you think he does?

And if so what do you think he'll do about them?

Not playing 4-4-2 against Liverpool at home. Big mistake as we were on a roll at the time.

announcing at the start of the season his intent to retire at the end of it.

put far too much uncertainty in the players' minds - he should've waited until about now, frankly, when the impact would have been positive instead of negative.....

I happen to think they were all errors, its certainly been his worst season for a long time, but I think it was fuelled by him taking excessive risks to try to win the CL in his last season - I think he just gambled too much, with a bit of desperation. Now that he knows he'll be here for a few years I expect him to think a bit longer time, and while being more careful he'll probably also be more ruthless to ensure his last year is a success. In 3 years time a lot of our players will be just past their best. I hope he brings some of the youth team in, and promising youth from abroad (like Forlan and Mexes).

He didn't surely?

Wasn't it last season he announced it?

That is a Stock Market decision.

If any Company knows their CEO is leaving they must announce it to the stock market. Failure to do so is a heavy financial penalty.

he should have lied, then. kept his intention quiet from the board until a more suitable time.

Mistake with the benefit of hindsight that one.

He was probably concious of the fact that he didnt want to go a goal down, because of the ability we have on the counter.

See your point though.

The other decisions have actually surprised me. Its not helped that for the first time in a while its not exactly been fortress old trafford.

The most alarming thing this season has been the inexplicable collective underperformance in some games, like boro and against our rivals, individual mistakes can be rectified by replacing the individuals or their form improving - but there appears to be a more subtle psychological problem this season and I can't put my finger on why that is.

That has been strange. No disprespect to united but Dudek hardly made a save over 180 minutes this season. But you normally blow away the likes of west ham, bolton, boro etc.

Perhaps defensive frailties are putting pressure on the attacking unit?

Football is a confidence game, and I think that the worries about the defense affected the sense of security and belief of the midfield - this I think was what happened in november. But now? Maybe it is post-European match blues, taking some teams too lightly, or burn out - I'm not sure which.

There are quite a lot mistakes we've made in this season, but for me the origin of the mistakes is clear. It is in Nov/Dec last years we have lost a series of games and our defence is in a horrible mess which finally affect the confidence of the whole team. Review the entire season at a whole and we can see the fatal point is we have lost too many games in the first half of the season. Our performance since the turn of the new year has been fantastic, yet too much damage has already been done.

Scousers, fuch off to the football forum and discuss your own problems.
Like "will Liverpool ever play entertaining football again?"

We were and still occasionally are in a mess in defence because we lost our best defender Stam. Simple as that.

Fortunately Fergie has stated that he is going to bring in new players in the summer to fix that so treat it as a lesson learned.
