Quality band. I've only really discovered them in the last few years since I've been at Uni and they're everywhere here. Annoyingly, they played at my Uni in my second ever week, but I didn't know them that well and so didn't go - how I regret that now!

The reason I make this thread, though, is because there must be other DnB oufits out there who are equally as good, and I know nothing about the scene. I want some more :D

Personally, I quite like Pendulum (well definitely the first album not so sure about the second) but a lot of d&b purists reject them as being too mainstream

I think there is plenty of d&b which is equally as good but not sure what i would recommend to a Pendulum fan - try Aphrodite:

The term DnB purist is an odd one, considering Jungle purists consider DnB a basterdized mainstream ruination as it is...at any rate, I completely agree with you, Tarantula and Fasten Your Seat Belts are great tracks...the whole "lets experiment with instruments in an odd rocky way" thing is worthy, but doesn't work at all for me....

I think the idea is great, Pendulum just suck. But if someone could mix dnb and rock in the way Portishead mix hip hop and rock it has the potential to be excellent.

Seems they're liked by everyone barring drum 'n bass fans, really.
Propane Nightmares, whatever your taste in music, is an amazing track that should be listened to if anyone hasn't already.

Pendulum are one of my favourite bands and a few of my mates really like them too, and we all kind of agree Propane Nightmares is their worst track.

EDIT: The last minute or so of this is just

Did anyone watch the preview show at Matter by any chance? I seemed to be the only one in the Newbs.

I disagree, as do hundreds of thousands of others. ;)

It must be noted that I don't exactly adore the band, though some tracks are undeniably class.

the whole transition to "band" is when it went meh for me. It's a bit like when the Black Eyed Peas gainined Fergie....just lost it's edge and gone a bit poo.

Nothing to do with their commercialism, it's just rather bland. For example going from a video of a fat bloke dancing in the street outside BlackMarket Records (Slam) to the pretentious wankyness of a religious cult singing their song in moody lighting (Propane Nightmares) is the problem. They dissapeared up their own arse a bit...as I said, it's worthy to attempt it, but everything after Hold Your Colour is just a bit shit IMO. Propane Nightmares is a good example, the music in the background is decent, but the singing over the top is just weakly emo and uninteresting.

Immersion seems to be largely a return to the old ways of the three producers doing most of the work. Watercolour seems a little Propane Nightmare-ish but Salt in the Wounds the other track played on Radio 1 and Ransom which featured a while back in a Noisia DJ Set seem to show them returning back to the electronic side rather than being like a band. Vulture also seems like it could be awesome although there's not even 2 minutes of it released yet so maybe a bit early to tell.

Absolutely hate the stuff they put out now.

Vault was a feckin classic, they haven't made a tune anywhere near as good as that since

quality video

Blood Sugar is still my favourite song for pissing off people on trains.

Amen.

Made some banging tunes back when were a proper a dnb outfit, now all they make is overproduced shite. But each to their own I suppose.

The mainstream attention they've received can only be a good thing for the genre, although existing fans have a tendency to get all high and mighty with their "we heard it first" attitudes. feck that, tho'.

I hate people who do that almost as equally as people who hear a song by an artist and then say they're their biggest fan despite only knowing one or two songs. The most recent example of this being Kings of Leon releasing Sex on Fire and Use Somebody and achieving a huge rise in popularity, unfortunately most of the 'fans' they picked up were only aware of these two songs and the album Only by the Night. A girl I know said she was obsessed with them after Use Somebody was released and asked if I had 'their album'. When I answered with 'I have them all' she looked confused as she was entirely unaware that they had 3 much better albums prior to Only by the Night. I don't mind people discovering a band later what I hate is when they make no effort to actually listen to the band but rather listen to the few songs that made them famous.

Me and some mates were planning on it but we can't get there and back in the same day and can't afford a hotel on top of the tickets.

I may have just acquired Immersion.

Also, seeing them live at Big Weekend tomorrow :D :D :D :D
