Russian midfielder Pavel Mamaev, who plays for CSKA Moscow.

I suppose most of You doesn't understand what the article says, so here goes.

Basically, he was very close to becoming a United player in 2012 January transfer window. Our well known Zoran Tosic had a chat with Ferguson about him. It was 80% done, but it all fell through because of work permit, as he isn't playing for National Team regulary.

Interesting...could have been very Vidic-esque transfer.

So we've gone him for again ? Or that was that ?

It is off. Ferguson tried to do the trick with 'Special Talent', but unsuccesfully.

That would be pretty odd of us to come so close to signing a player one year, and completely let go for the next 2 windows.

CSKA, btw. Wonder why Chelsea aren't in for him if he's good ? Hasn't been capped by Russia either much.

He still only has 2 caps for Russia. If he couldn't get a special talent work permit then, two years without any caps isn't going to change anyone's mind.

That is odd, thats why a wanted to share this on the Caf. If SAF was monitoring him for a while and rated him, why this didn't go through?

Feck knows about Chelsea, but he seems really pissed that he is constantly overlooked by Russia NT.

Weird, if he's not good enough to play for Russia why would he be good enough to play for United?

Vidic wasn't first choice for Serbia either when he joined.

Yep, this one is for the future. Who knows.

We got one for Henriquez somehow and also some uncapped or less capped players before.

Anyways, don't we apply for work permits after announcing a deal anyway ? Weird that the media won't pick it up from the home office. And there is a year or 2 wait period before you can apply again IIRC.

If i am getting my translation correct via google he also says that Tosic contacted him regarding the transfer in 2011 and then agents took over. Seems to be them trying to benefit from a enquiry from us tbh.

Wasn't that due to a injury though ? He was regular before that IIRC.

Btw, this guy seems to play 5 different positionns. So in that sense is a SAF type of signing.

Yep, he was on holiday in Miami, it was cut short and he came back to Moscow for some talks.

He has scored today for CSKA, according to twitter.
