Well, is he?

Fergie said it after the Villa game. I can't think of another player he's said that about. Perhaps Eric but I don't recall it.

The 'Scholes for player of the Year' thread starts here!

Scholes is a footballing legend, Genuis would be an understatement.

(Bet you didn't know he can play in goal too)

'Genius' is a much better description than:

1. the little fella (c) Big Ron
2. the little ginger fella (ditto)
3. the ginger ninja
4. Paulscholeshescoresgoals (yawn)

...any more?

Not only is he great but he's very down to earth. He's United first anything else in football second.

A real treasure.

Anyone remembers his goals at Bradford & Borough n 99/2000 season ,,,breathtaking

Since he doesn't really play as striker, it's a bit of a redundant point.

'er, well I recall Fergie trying him as a striker earlier in the year, and it didnt work - so I get your point, but i thought memories might have been a little more active to get the point i was making.. but yes, he is a midfielder

would you be referring to the second/split striker role he fulfilled last season? In fact the position he started at the club when we all though he would replace Eric directly? Would 'it didn't work' in your opinion equate to him scoring 20 goals in a season? Can he not play as a striker because he was for years by all accounts 'the best natural finisher at the club'?

Those goals against Bradford and Boro were absolutely amazing. My favorite goal ever was that one against Bradford volleyed directly off the corner. It didn't even win goal of the week that week because of Paulo Di Canio's volley. Absolutely amazing. He was applauded by the Bradford supporters. Obviously my favorite player. A definate genius contributing to some of my favorite United moments ever...

remember his hattrick vs. West Ham, that one back heeled goal?

Scholes is really a genious. It enough to take one look at him on the field, and you see it. the way he plays, the passes, the shoots, the way he reads the game! He's always at the right place!!!

ReD DeViL HuGs

I play him in goals in Club Football. Haven't conceded a goal in the entire 38 games!

Perfect response to the red card and he's still a fecking brilliant player. Could be in for a Giggs like season after a poor one last year.

'Best midfielder from these shores in the last 30 years'. A proper player's player. There's no way in hell Gerrard's got better technique than the ginger one. Thing is he's as highly respected on the continent too. Zidane, Davids, Nevded et al all regard him as their fav player.

Damn right. He is still the man. I have a feeling he will have a great season this year similar to Giggs last season and I made a thread about it in the newbies during the summer which not many agreed with me on.

Very promising start. What's frightening is that Giggs looks just as good as last year. Hell even Gary Neville looks like he's gained a yard of pace during the summer. Just means we'll miss them even more when they're gone.

Robbo's the one I was thinking would challenge him. Keano is Irish. Gascoigne blew it really. Hoddle, very good but inferior to Scholes.

Yeah, I meant British Isles. . .which is why I included Keane. Robbo had the lot, though. He could pass it around likes Scholes and was also dynamic like Gerrard.

Yea, it's tight between Robbo and Scholes, Scholsey was plenty dynamic in his younger days aswell and edges it with passing and shooting for me. Robbo was only injury prone because he put his neck on the line so often, fearless bastard. Robson was the 'complete midfielder', Scholes the 'crafty midfielder'.

I like the fact that he seems to be getting forward a bit more so far this season. I didn't like seeing him always play deep.
