'tis a silly place
After numerous reports, Arsene Wenger has reluctantly admitted that Patrick Vieira will not be in an Arsenal shirt by the start of next season.
He has said he knows Vieira wants to leave and Wenger says he will not 'beg him to stay'.
Stating the obvious, unless Arsenal replace him with someone like Luigi Di Biagio (Inter Milan?) then they will not challenge for next years title.
Vieira is Arsenals' best player and drives them on like Roy Keane, and if he left I am sure the French contingent (Wiltord, Henry, Pires etc.) will consider their future.
Any thoughts about where Vieira might go and who Arsenal should replace him with?

I would go with Luigi Di Biagio, the Italiam CM who plays for Inter (?). But Vieira is irreplacable, especially with the Friendship he has with the Arsenal players - he was set to be Arsenals' next captain.

Yes I was contemplating this earlier.
With Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Jaun Veron and Roy Keane all occupying the CM role, I can not see United going for him, but it is true he and Roy Keane would be some partnership.
Their is also the question of his trasfer value. How much is he realistically worth? I can see another McManaman/Anelka fiasco opening up with many foreign clubs wanting him and prepared to spend up to about £30 million, which is a bargain in my opinion - he is young, strong and fast, the complete player.

Savio and Macca out and Vieira in.
Figo - Zidane - Viera - Makalele

I can see it happening. It will cost the tax payers of Spain though.....

So what else is new! ;)

Just think of the outrage at England if the queen or the government gave us the money to sign a Zidane! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

I have heard numerous rumours that Savio is going to Chelsea in an £11 million deal but Real Madrid were holding out for more (?).

I would not be suprised if Real offered Arsenal £20 million + Steve McManaman.
Wenger admires McManaman and I am sure McManaman wouldn't exactly run from the chance of returning to England, and Vieira would go to Spain with relish, becuase he has bad memories of Italy so he may not go there.

Though McManaman is no Vieira and whoever Arsenal go for I doubt he can replace Vieira. Arsenals' midfield just looks flat with no Petit or Vieira.

Would this be a box midfield?

I think Zidane-Figo-Vieira-Solari is a diamond is much more likely. Ideally, Madrid would play a 3-5-2 but with Salgado and Carlos would not fit into that very well. Perhaps Makelele would play sweeper or be a defensive substitution.

I swear, sometimes Gazza, you just pull names out yer ass for the sake of it. You don't even know if he plays for Inter! Why, in that case, would you go with him to replace PV?
