Patrice Evra

You must be joking. He is playing well.

But what makes you say he has had a better season than Ronnie.

CnutOfAllCnuts said:
Nah, he's got Scholes, Ronaldo, Vidic and Rio ahead of him in the que.

i reckon only ronaldo has matched evra's performance this season. this aint a dig at scholes or anyone, who have all played exceptional, but every time i go to see united i walk out thinking evra was motm again, he aint had one bad game yet!

The main reasons we are topping the league is

- Ronaldo's match winning displays
- Vidic & Rio's control at the back
- Scholes' ability to run the games in midfield

I'd add SAF's managerial abilities.

You go first. You are the one who made the thread.

nothing to do with evra's consistant flawless performances then?

Other players, like Evra, Giggs, Carrick, van der Sar, Neville, Rooney and Saha have done very well, but without the four I mentioned, we would not have been top.

i'm not great at describing exactly what it is that makes a player stand out but i'll try:-

despite his size he never looses out in a header.
his tackling is hard and always accurate and well timed.
he has linked up well with ronaldo, overlapping each other right when it's needed.
he can match pace with any winger in the league.
he is never afraid to run the ball into the centre and is confident in the opposition's box.
He'll always be back in defence when needed if an attack fails.

that's about it.

As long as I see, this thread is called "Patrice Evra", not "Players who helped Utd reach the top of the league". And you didn't even mention his name in your previous post.

Who's name?

He is playing well, but I don't think he has been the player of the season or ahead of Ronnie in terms of performance. Ronnie has been exceptional this year, his end product is there for everyone to see now. He had added goals to his game as well, and is second top scorer in the prem, which for a winger is excellent. He is the player for us, with rooney, who can change the game at the drop of a hat. I only need to point you in the direction of the game we played against pompey on saturday. We looked very flat without Ronnie and our team lacked the pace of fast flowing football we normally play with him in the team. He takes players of the opposite team out of the game which free's up our players allowing them to get forward.

I know it is your opinion, which you're entitled to, that evra has been player of the season. I just don't agree with it. :wenger:

This is the post I've quoted you. And I really don't see Evra's name or even a comment related to him. Maybe I need glasses...

Well, it wasn't exactly obvious to what post you were referring to.

Evra's name isn't mentioned in that post because IMO he is not one of the main reasons to our success this season, hence he is IMO not player of the season.

i'm finding it hard to compare ronaldo to evra. Obviously Evra is not a 'match winner' like ronaldo because he plays in defence, but i do think that if SAF were to drop evra for heinze then we would notice a lack of pace similar to that when ronaldo is not playing. Ronaldo's best play this season has always come from the left wing, the reason being because he has formed a perfect partnership with evra's attacking abilities. Ronaldo will always be the one that gets the credit, but evra is essential nevertheless.

Ronaldo has been just as good when playing on the right, where he has got a good partnership with Gary Neville....

off to lunch.

I have to admit I was feeling very uncomfortable...

I think I might have piles

Go look that word up in the dictionary before you start using it loosely.

I had a few doubts about Evra, these doubts were fuelled by his mediocre start... I now have no doubts, the lad is fast as feck and a top quality defender, Heinze must be wondering if he is going to get back into the first XI.

For me, Scholes has been the top man this season. I also think a player who doesn't get as much credit for his performances is Gary Neville. He's been playing as a wing back virtually and that gives us so much attacking threat down the right hand side.

I love these threads... I read a letter on Ceefax this morning saying we're a 2 man team, and we're arguing over who's our player of the season from a group of about 7 players...

It's either him, Vidic or Ronaldo for me.

Evra's the most improved one though from last season. Definately.

I'm with ciderman.

Purely because of Evra's consistency. With Ronnie second, just ahead of Vidic/Scholes in joint third-place.

Good shout about most of Ronnie's best work coming down the left wing. And Ronnie's had one or two dips in his performance, Evra has been 100% week in week out.

A left-back can never influence the game as much as players in more attacking positions but, bearing this in mind, Evra has been awesome in every game this season.
