Whats happened to him?

I've been a huge fan since he started. My favourate player from this new group of Indian players. So much talent, he was our main strike bowler, always taking wickets with the new ball, and then getting runs late on.

Then one bad ODI series and they drop him, Chappel comes out saying hes lacking confidence(who the feck does that?!) and hes looked awful ever since, atleast as a bowler. Earlier he used to have that swing and incredible control, and he looked like he had the opening batsman all under his control. I couldnt see anyone taking him on. Like a cricketer at the peak of his powers. And now people are battering him around for 4 fours in an over, his line and length is all wrong, hes gotten slower, the swing is ineffectual because hes spraying it all over.

Any ideas? This is worrying for Indian cricket. Hes the backbone of the future of Indian cricket. :(

some stupid stuff that our bowling coaches do to fast bowlers,, they want them to concentrate so much on line.. variety.. etc.. bowlers forget one BIG thing.. pace..

look at whats happening to munaf patel.. he used to be genuinely quick.. then he went to the MRF academy and now hes bowling at 175 mph... sic!!

True. From what i used to hear Munaf used to be bloody quick. Infact he had to slow down because he couldnt control it. Wanted to break some speed barriers. And now he cant get it over 85. And he barely puts anything into the deliveries.

Its happened with almost every single one without fail. Zaheer was the classic case. Its as if they'ret taughed to forget how to bowl with remotely any pace. Pathan used to bowl around 80-85 with swing, which was deadly. Then his pace reduced but he still had incredible swing, now his action is fecked apparently. We should send our bowling coaches around the world, our batting will never have any problems.

I think it's time for a change in coaching staff...

They are messing up big style.

it's true about pathan. i don't know what's wrong with him but i sure hope he gets back. always thought he had the talent to become a really good cricketer. i wonder if they'll play him today. might drop RP and play him. i'm actually getting sick of all this rotation. hope we settle on a starting 11 soon.

I'm not sure what to put it down to. Is it Chappel? Not sure because it happened with Zaheer and co. when Wright was around. A move towards getting some real quality bowling coaches from abroad is required. The MRF pace academy seems to be ruining more players than helping. I read today in the papers that Chappel got Jeff Thompson to take a look at Pathan, and Thompson from reports suggested a change with the grip but didnt have much to suggest. Another example of taking the short cut.

Chappel seems to want to be too in charge. We need a proper bowling coach, maybe a bunch of people to specialise in that area.

I would like to see Pathan as a bowler and a good one rather than an average batsman, India do not lack batting talent.

Is Wasim available on a short term coaching contract? he would be ideal guy for Irfan - left handed, great swing exponent etc...

Probably the best coach for our Pathan, unfortunately that may never happen officially..

Someone like a McGrath would be better imo. Starting in a few years time ofcourse.
On the Pathan note, he will be back and soon he just needs to go back to the nets and get some form back. You drop players who are severley out of form and are not playing well no matter who they are. The decision was the right one imo. I would be very surprised if he is not back for the ICC Champions trophy.
