Quick poll, scouse views welcome. Can St Michael do an effective job up front by himself in a split-striker system. If he can't, and both Liverpool and England have to play two men right up front to compensate for that, is that a problem at all? I say no, and yes.

In my opinion, and you should know that I am a Liverpool fan, is that Michael could do an excellent job up front alone. He has amazing pace, handles the ball very well and has a very quality shot. The problem is, at least at the club level, is that our midfield is very defensive and clumped in the center of the pitch. I think if we had some real wingers to spread the field and someone like Litty or Berger playing in an attacking center mid role, St. Mike could excel up front alone. Let's be honest, he's basically doing it all himself now when he's paired with Heskey (who I'm not slagging off, but just being honest). Whatcha think? :)

If the midfield can find a target like Teddy who attracts some attention away from Owen, it should free up some more space for him. Teddy is adept at playing very accurate through balls in to open channels and Owen's speed will get him there.

Yes, but you've got no outlet up front if you play that way. You can't knock thirty yard passes into his feet and expect them to stick when he's got some thirteen stone defender on top of him and another one covering behind. Everything'll have to go short if you want to keep the ball, and in terms of technique we're not talking about Brazil circa 1970 with England or Liverpool.
