As far as I admire the guy, he does not deserve to win that award.
I would give the honour to Real Madrid´s hit man Raúl Gonzalez. That guy has just been excellent for Madrid in every game i´ve watched him play(which is literally all since I live in Spain).
 
Hope Owen gets it. He's been very consistant lately and since coming back from his injury problems, has proved his doubters wrong. Scored important goals for his club and his country.
 
the awards are usually a joke anyway ...

id give it totti, batistuta, shevchenko or maybe even beckham, who´s been by far england´s most important in 2001.
