Our premium cost players is where we can improve

Looking at our most expensive players is quite frustrating. Players like Varane, Maguire, Sancho, Antony and most recently Casemiro and Mount do not perform at the level we need from players costing more than £20 mill a year in depreciation and wages.

It is a huge issue for the club considering we have spent so much that we dont have much room to manoeuver in the transfer market. We are pushing both P&S and FPL.

The good thing is that some of these players have been depreciated for years (Maguire). Some of them have big names and will be of interest to Saudi (Varane, Casemiro and Sancho). If we are able to sell Maguire, Varane, Casemiro and Sancho without making huge losses we should be able to do significant business with a new owner and a new structure. These players have a yearly cost of approx £100 mill.

Players like Todibo and Inacio makes less than £50k a week. At a fee of £50 mill they would probably cost around £15 mill a year each. You could buy seven players like that for the cost of those four players.

Obviously that’s a huge part of our problem, nearly all of our massive money signings have been terrible:

Antony/Sancho/Maguire etc haven’t been anywhere near the value of the fees we’ve paid for them.

That’s without starting on the level below that Fred/AWB etc.

Before we sign anyone we should fire the recruitment team and hire basically anyone else.

It’s more about age combined with silly money we put them on. Even someone like Sancho or Antony we will likely be able to get a half decent fee despite all the issues around them, the problem isn’t what we paid it’s that we put them on untouchable high wages.

Why we still go for older players on unbelievable wages though is the mystery. Varane, Casemiro, Ronaldo, Cavani etc. they only really have downside. You can argue Case could have been a necessary one season wonder for last year but there’s just no forward planning - we have so many CMs now and the best one is genuinely freebie Eriksen who can’t play more than a half.
