With Dubravka going back to Newcastle and the talk of United getting in Jack Butland it got me wondering what the opinions were on our current keepers.

Henderson has been done to death and I think it’s safe to say he won’t be a number one here. Not only that but he’ll likely be sold as he’s unwilling to be a number two.

That leaves us with the following in the U23s who I’ll be honest and say I know very little about in terms of their current progress and potential;

Nathan Bishop - 23
Radek Vitek - 19
Matej Kovar - 22
Ondrej Mastny - 20
Dermot Mee - 20

I know Kovar is currently on loan and number one at Sparta Prague. He’s had 10 appearances, conceded 12 goals and has 4 clean sheets.

I also know Bishop has been out on loan last season and had a successful season at Mansfield helping them to the playoff finals which they lost. It seems the club wanted to loan him again this season but couldn’t get him at a higher level and they are keen for him to move in January if something can be done.

Does anyone believe this crop have a chance at becoming a first team quality keeper at United? I appreciate they are all young with Bishop and Kovar ahead of the others in terms of experience and development.

Bishop was meant to go on loan to League 1 but the club delayed his release for so long that it fell through.

I think Vitek is the best prospect of the bunch and could be ready to compete for the number 1 spot in 2-3 years time with a bit of exposure to professional football on loan. He probably does need to improve his distribution though if he wants to be a Ten Hag keeper.

Kovar was a monster a youth level. He did have a tough first loan spell though but admittedly, I've not seen a great deal of him since.

The other 3 I don't think have a chance of making it personally.

None of them play enough games for anyone to make a fair assessment.
