Otten Cup 2017

Our U19s have entered into the Otten Cup again.

The tournament is held at PSV's training complex the Herdgang on August 4-6.

Teams at the tournament are:
United
Anderlecht
Cruzeiro
Estudiantes
FC Barcelona
PSG
PSV
Borussia Mönchengladbach

Last year, we lost the final to Anderlecht on penalties.

This will probably be the first time we can see the new scholars and the new signings like we could last season with Chong, Bohui etc.

Good group of teams that!
Any idea who is likely to go? @khoazany @jb8521

Same as last year I guess. Every U18 who's fit, though the likes of Gomes, Chong, O'Connor could be promoted to the U23s by then.

7 out of 19 players aren't available for this edition so that already leaves those spots open + as you said Chong, Gomes, Warren and O'Connor may not be there.

Mason Greenwood hype!

Beat Cruzeiro 2-0. Goals:

O'Connor forgot that he's supposed to be a defender for a few seconds

That was a filthy goal from O'Connor!

What a goal by O connor i have high hopes from some of our academy players and he is one of them.

Nice to see these boys winning and the passion that comes across.

Whether or not they're future first teamers is anyone's guess, but there is something special about youth football.

Why traore, puigmal and other new signings not included?

Was a neat through ball from Brandon Williams for the first goal as well. He's having a good pre-season.

Good win considering most of the squad are playing 1-2 year up and new signings aren't included. Technically the likes of Boonen or Kenyon are still eligible for this tournament.

Not sure I have ever seen a Cb score that kind of a goal before.

Even the technique and composure on the rebound after initial shot was saved is great.

United lost 0-1 to an older and more experienced Borussia Moenchengladbach team at De Herdgang this morning.

The German side took the lead in the 4th minute and caught the Reds before we had a chance to settle. From then on, even though we had decent chances through Baars, Williams and Bughail-Mellor we just couldn't find a deserved equaliser.

They really only had one clear chance and scored.

Team: Moutha-Sebtaoui, Laird, Ercolani, Bernard, O'Connor, McGhee, Garner, Barlow, Williams, Baars, Burkart

Subs: Spratt, Dunne, Levitt, Greenwood (12), Thompson, Mambuene (14), Elanga (9), Bughail-Mellor (10)

How come Traore, Puigmal et al aren't at this tournament, if you don't mind me asking?

We clearly intend to give tournament experience to younger ones, if we were serious about winning tournament we would have taken more experienced player who were eligible to feature.

Inter Milan 3 Manchester United 0

United needed to get a result in this match and even a draw would have seen them though to tomorrow's semi-final stage. Unfortunately against a much older Inter Milan team, defensive errors and a lack of concentration in the last 10 minutes was the difference between the two teams.

United started with a back three of Ercolani, Dunne and O'Connor with Laird and Spratt as wingbacks.

At the start of the second half Kieran McKenna brought on Williams, Burkart and Barlow and we looked a little more likely to score but it proved an off day for the youngsters.

Certainly we matched Inter for 50 minutes and the scoreline flattered them considerably. Nevertheless we didn't do enough in front of goal and now play for 5/6th place tomorrow.

Team: Thompson, Laird, Ercolani, Dunne, O'Connor, Spratt, Levitt, Garner, Baars, Bughail-Mellor, Greenwood

Subs: Moutha-Sebtaoui, Williams (3), Burkart (19), Barlow (17), Bernard, Mambuene, McGhee (8), Elanga

Yellow cards: Ercolani, Baars
